MAKES WSB GREAT AGAIN WITH SOME $WKHS DD

Buckle up retards cuz this autist is about to take you on a ride to tendy town. Inb4 you all check my post history and bitch about all my WKHS posts, ya no fucking shit I’m gonna post about a stock I love. Inb4 Inb4 you tinfoil hat wearing GME/AMC fucks attack me, last time I checked there’s more than two stocks on the exchanges. Anyways here goes,
Workhorse group is a Loveland, Ohio EV manufacturer. 100% American Made (insert American Eagle boner gif) and completely electric for all you who value the environment or whatever. I’m sure you’ve all come across it at some point especially when I was the top trending stock for like a week at the end of June/July. As many of you might now, this shitshow of a government we have here in the good ol’ USA is looking to upgrade their self combusting USPS fleet via a NGDV (Next Generation Delivery Vehicle) bidding process for a contract to the tune of approximately 8 billion. When all is said and done, including maintenance and upkeep, the contract in the span of a decade or more is about 20b. This NGDV contract is the “betting” portion of this stock and despite what all the retarded naysayers claim, there is a fuck ton more to WKHS besides this contract. This is the cherry on top so I’m starting top down with this masterpiece.
Currently, there are three remaining bids from companies involved in this NGDV selection process. Karsan (a Turkish company), Ford/Oshkosh (joint venture), and our beloved WKHS.
Karsan - I can’t see this winning even a fraction of a percent of the contract due to it not being American. Not because it’s a bad company but if you check the requirements for the companies, they snuck in a clause that mandated 75% American made parts to be selected. Also, Biden, for the better part of his campaign and to this day has been proclaiming that he will be bringing American manufacturing to the forefront again and we will be buying American (something he and Trump miraculously had in common). For this reason, Karsan is seen as a non-factor.
Ford/Oshkosh - The only realistic challenger to WKHS and only bear case being made against it. Undoubtedly, Ford is as American as it gets. But even more undoubtedly, they are shitty and unreliable as fuck. Millions of recalls on Ford vehicles in the past and present. Another big issue with this is that Biden was “zero-emission”. The prototype submitted for the proposal was a hybrid and not fully EV. For this reason, I think Ford receives a portion of this contract no greater than 25%. Another reason I think they’ll get only a minor stake in this is because their prototype does indeed actually fare better in rural routes where charging stations just aren’t all that practical or possible.
The whole NGDV process has been going on for about 6 years and there’s no surprise that this inefficient government has been unable to wrap the process up at this point and then Covid took over. Yes there have been delays to the contract award as recently as October 2020. In a lettememo addressed to the USPS Board of Governors, they were urged to not further delay this process as with the current degradation of the existing fleet, doing so would harm the project altogether and further complicate the process of removing these shitboxes that have been around since ‘87. With Covid being the last excuse to delay, and the vaccine now being rolled out, I DO NOT foresee another stalling of the process.
Another reason WKHS is my favorite in this race is that DeJoy’s current philosophy on the USPS is to cut costs and to have the entity become for cost efficient. In case you haven’t noticed, ICE vehicles are much more costly to run and maintain that a 100% EV vehicle. Fewer parts means fewer problems and much less maintenance and repair costs. Also, in their recent financial statements, the USPS had requested a 600% increase in their infrastructure spending. I don’t see too many post offices crumbling to the ground, so this can only mean they’re gearing up to install a metric fuck ton of charging stations. By going fully EV, billions will be saved over time by the post office, an entity that’s currently burning cash like it’s their fucking job.
THE LAST DELAY IN THE NGDV SLATES THE CONTRACT TO BE AWARDED FISCAL 2021 Q2 WHICH MEANS JANUARY-MARCH 2021.
Enough about the contract though, let’s talk other aspects. WKHS is currently partnered with UPS in testing by out their fleet and also more importantly their drone delivery capabilities. WKHS currently owns the patents to vehicle borne drone launching technology. This isn’t talked about enough. Many people think the future of this company hinges on that shitshow of a contract when in reality the really exciting part is this drone tech. It would be extremely helpful and useful in efficient package delivery especially when there’s a whole fleet management system capabilities that the company offers. As the autonomous tech and drones sector begin to grow exponentially, WKHS has a head start on it (the commercial delivery aspect).
Institutional holdings lies at almost 50%. The big boys and big girls (BAE Cathie Wood) are in on the company and they are in heavy. My wife Cathie must be seeing something in the future of this company if she’s grown her holding to over 2.2m shares and she’s not gonna throw some money into a gamble on a fucking government contract.
Many claim that production is an issue but this is more a scare tactic than an actual issue. Sister company Lordstown Motors (Ticker: Ride) is led by former WKHS CEO. They have offered their factory, which has the capability to pump out about 600k vehicles a year, if WKHS needs it. Important to note that WKHS has a 10% stake in Lordstown and will receive royalties on the first 100k Endurance EV pickup trucks that Lordstown sells. So there’s another form of revenue the company has going for it.
It’s a growth stock with a lot of potential and it’s logistically gearing up to grow. Received 200m financing from an institutional Investor during the late summeearly fall, and it entered into an agreement with Hitachi, to be assured in the logistics of the company. Hitachi is a pretty serious company to be partnered with unless you plan on slinging out vehicles. Most recently, a 6,320 truck order came in from Pritchard which totals around 250m give or take a few bucks. This is all while IKEA a company that aims to go fully electric by 2025 is testing out a fleet of WKHS C1000 vehicles.
Connect the fucking dots and join the ride fellow autists. I’ve been long WKHS since January of 2020 and there’s plenty of room to run. High risk high reward with this growth stock but that’s why we’re all here right?
Positions - 1000 shares, 11x $60c 2/12 (USPS BOG meeting Tuesday so these are scratch off lottos basically), 5x $60c 2/19 (see previous calls), 11x 45c 4/16.
Let’s ride this horse to tendy town fellas 🤝
Edit: I’m a retard blah blah blah THIS IS NOT FINANCIAL ADVICE I JUST LOVE THIS STOCK blah blah blah
EDIT 2 - WKHS vehicles are being showcased at the super bowl as Pritchard is using WKHS trucks to take people to and from the super bowl and various surrounding locations. Essentially they are marketing themselves by providing shuttle services.
Edit 3 - WKHS is currently at about 30% short sold so a contract announcement in their favor will easily rocket this to 100+ as shorts scramble to cover. It sneaky made the list of highly shorted stocks.
Edit 4 - 🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀 (FOR THE VISUAL LEARNING RETARDS)
Edit 5 - TLDR: WKHS is 100% American made EV Last Mile Delivery Vehicle. Has Patents pending for its drone delivery tech. Frontrunner for USPS 8.2b+ Government Fleet Contract (NGDV Contract). Heavy institutional ownership including BAE Cathie Wood. 30% Short Float to be squeezed on contract announcement.

I'm 25, make 16.24/hr in Edmonton, Alberta, and have written the world's most boring MD

Background: I am a 25 year old Starbucks barista. I was working full-time until fairly recently (Novemberish) as the rising cases in my city & my own health issues led to a really good talk with my boss. I have reduced my hours by 50% - enough to keep my health insurance, but enough to qualify for the Canada Recovery Benefit, an extra $900 every two weeks. This is for my own peace of mind as I really cannot afford to get COVID, especially as I am chronically ill.
I’d like to make note of two things -
I am one of those weirdos who has taken COVID seriously since it hit the news in January. My spouse and I had masks and sanitizer before it was cool, lol. As a result, I have not and do not go out much except to work. I do not see other people (the exception being this week as you will read.) I do pop into retail stores still as Canada Post is absolutely swamped with packages so I avoid trying to buy online.
In this diary I am battling with a Crohn’s flare. I promise the exhaustion and joint aches are because of that, not because of COVID! Funnily enough, I do credit my Crohn’s for my ease with COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns. Being that I was hospitalized for a long time as a teen, I find it easy to be isolated and stay isolated. I know a lot of people struggle with that.
Onto the good stuff…
The Positives
Income: 16.24/hourly. I was promoted since my last diary and am now a certified trainer!
CRB: $1800/monthly. I am so incredibly thankful that I have this failsafe.
Student loans: I am back in school with more emergency management and communications classes. I applied for just enough of a student loan to pay the tuition and no more. Starbucks gives $1,000 of tuition reimbursement if you pass your classes which I can pay back onto my student loans and basically covers the cost of my classes this semester.
The Negatives
Rent/Utilities/Condo Fees: a flat $1050 monthly to S. The bills come out of his account and this is the number we landed on.
Internet: $42.50 (my half - all bills are my half. S works for the city government in waste management and makes $63,000~ a year. He has no debts except his car loan & the mortgage.)
Phone: $58.21 monthly for 13GB and unlimited texts and calls. I own my phone outright.
NYT: $14.28 for the news, Cooking, and the crossword.
Spotify: $4.99 monthly. Canadian baristas do not get the free Spotify perk. :(
Headspace: $0 monthly. We do at least get this!
Car insurance: $197.41 monthly. This is with a 9 year clean driving record, a reduced rate because of my grades, and the fact that identifying as a woman also lessens the price. And it’s still $2400 a year. Kill me. I own my car outright though.
Google Photos: $2.79/monthly.
Health insurance: $39/check to cover S and I, dental and medical. I am also on S’s so we have full coverage.
Debts & Assets:
Student loans: I have $8,000 in provincial loans and $11,000 in federal loans. They are on pause as I am in school but I was paying $215 a month towards them. I know I qualify for repayment assistance but the goddamn NSLSC will never pick up the phone.
Car: It is a 13-year-old SUV and worth maybe $2,000. I will drive that thing until it dies.
Savings: I have approximately $1500 in a TFSA. I have about $750 in Starbucks stock (not technically a savings, it was my grant this year + my own contributions, 1% from my paycheck.) I am also enrolled in their retirement plan. No idea how much is in that as I can only access the website on the work computer and never remember to do that. I have $150 in stocks because I thought I was going to be Jordan Belfort or something, idk.
Tips: I hoard all of my tip money in a little jar hidden somewhere in my home. It is at about $475.
I have no other debt.
Day One - Tuesday
7:50: S kisses me goodbye and leaves for work. I snuggle back in.
8:10: M, my male cat, is tapping my face for breakfast. Ignored.
8:24: He tries again and I get up. Lately I have been noticing the time 8:24 a lot. I told S and he said he’s been noticing 10:42 a lot. So we have decided those are our angel numbers. M is no angel though despite waking me up at this time.
8:40: Everyone is fed and I make my coffee and let out the dog, K. Oh yeah… the dog… he was an accident. We did not intend on getting a dog. It is a long story. I love him to bits.
9:15: Finish my coffee and go upstairs to have a snuggle with Z, our female cat. She is so warm. I was intending on going out to buy M’s wet food today but it is snowing something fierce and I hate driving in the snow so I resign myself to staying indoors. I would also normally take K on a walk at this time but he had knee surgery this past year and the cold and snow really bother it, so we will do some indoor play and puzzles to keep him occupied (he is a corgi and is a monster without stimulation. Again, DID NOT INTEND ON THE DOG.)
10:00: Write these entries and tidy up our spare room. We turned it into a nap/cat/yoga den as we were, obviously, not having any visitors. However, my sister-in-law is pregnant and is coming down tonight for an advanced ultrasound as there is a tentative abnormality with the baby. Because her town has had 0 cases thus far - congratulations to them, honestly - and the outpatient clinic is the one two minutes from our neighbourhood, we decided it was OK for her to stay with us. She will drive down tonight and leave right after her appointment tomorrow. 12:30: Did some cleaning, cereal eating, bed-making, what have you. I go to take the garbage out to our complex dumpster in my tshirt and notice it’s not as bad as I thought despite the snow. So I gear up and take out K.
1:15: I’m so glad I did - he was so happy! Usually he starts limping within a few minutes if the cold is bothering him but he was putting his head and belly into the snow drifts so I know he was having a good time. The cold and the walk have wiped me out though. I eat a clementine and lay under my heated blanket for a nap with Z and K (M likes to watch the snow upstairs.)
4:15: K snores himself awake and barks at himself so I wake up too. Z looks annoyed and wanders upstairs. Three animals is quite the zoo.
Check my phone and see my SIL asked if I could leave a dinner for her in the fridge, if I was making something? She left later than intended and won’t be here until 9 so dinner options will be limited. I tell her I haven’t been feeling well and S is at a union meeting tonight (why the union is doing in person meetings, I don’t know.) but it is pasta Tuesday at Boston Pizza… she readily agrees. I place an order for ravioli for myself and fettuccine for her. S will get fed at his meeting. My SIL says she will leave me cash for her half even though I try to tell her not to. Hopefully she forgets. (27.98 delivery, I’m going to leave a cash tip of $10 taped to the door for coming in the snow.)
6:30: I have enough of an appetite to eat my ravioli but only get through four pieces. I put it away to eat it later and feed the animals. I give K his puzzle bowl and he gives me a look of despair.
8:00: Ding! Crossword and mood log notifications go off. I get about halfway through the crossword when my SIL gets here.
10:30: We have a catch-up and exchange Christmas gifts as we couldn’t go up North for the holidays. Then I head to bed. I do my skincare and jade roll out a pinched nerve in my jaw - feels so good. Finish my crossword and then bed.
Daily Total: $39.98
Day Two - Wednesday
8:24: Right on time, the tiny beasts request food. SIL is already gone. She left me a $20, argh! I put it in my tip jar as I took from there to leave the cash tip but I wish she hadn’t. Babies are let out and fed.
9:30: Manage a bowl of cereal. Feel exhausted. It’s -31C out so we play indoor fetch. Putter around the house.
10:30: Go upstairs and do my skincare and fill out my journal as I couldn’t last night. I bought a daily Moleskine planner but use it as more of a journal. I put on a Yoga by Adrienne video as I won’t be walking K. I work today so I stretch.
12:30: I lay down with K after some more fetch (I told you the exhaustion is real in this diary.)
2:00: My alarm goes off. I eat mashed potatoes and drink some water, then go upstairs to find M and Z cuddling in my vanity chair. I perch on the edge - because they refuse to move! - and do some makeup. I change into my personal uniform of all black (hides the stains) and set out.
5:00: I have my first break. I got $3 in tips from last week (lol) so I use it to buy a croissant. I’m gonna claim this as a +.82 because the croissant was only 2.18.
7:00: I only manage half of my pasta on my break, which is unusual for me. I drink a mint tea to settle my stomach.
9:15: It was so dead we managed to finish everything super quickly. I take home some expired oat bars as they’re the only Starbucks snack S can eat.
9:30: Home and greet everyone. S lets out K and goes upstairs to get ready for bed. I do my “closing tasks.” This is something I picked up from the TikTok account domesticblisters, who is a licensed therapist. She has this concept of care tasks, and what tasks you should do to help set yourself up for success every night - even if it’s just to survive the day. It really resonated with me and is something I have done every night since November with a few exceptions! I start my closing tasks after I finish my nightly crossword.
Every night, I fill up all the waters in the house (ours, animals, the Keurig, etc.) I get to Sink Zero, which might mean loading the dishwasher and running it, or washing all the dishes in the sink. I disinfect the sink and scrub the stove, then disinfect the counters and the dining table. I do a Swiffer of the floor (K brings in lots of pawprints and salt from outside.) I pick up any garbage/recycling/things that don’t belong downstairs. It is so nice to come down every morning to a clean main floor and sets the mood for the day. And it only takes me 20ish minutes.
10:00: Done my tasks, give everyone a little treat for not walking on the wet floor - they’ve learned quickly that if they wait they get a treat - and head upstairs. Journal, do my skincare, floss, brush, and head to bed. Listen to Temple Rain on Headspace.
Daily Total: +$20.82
Day Three - Thursday
8:00: I can already tell today is a bad stomach day. Luckily my boss texted me and asked if I wanted to give up my shift as it was going to be super dead with the impending snowstorm and deep freeze. I readily agree and doze off for a few minutes before M bites me hard enough to get me up.
9:00: Everyone is fed, let out. I drink coffee. K is being a major snugglebug. It is snowing like crazy out but I have to go do some errands.
12:00: I stop bumming around and gear up to go outside. It’s still snowing. Ugh, Alberta.
First stop is to get gas. I have a quarter of a tank left. Remember in April when gas was like, 50c a litre? It’s 1.06 today. Also, fellow Canadians, the Esso Speedpass app is a godsend. Not having to touch any buttons on the pump has been so helpful. 45.93
Next I head to the grocery store to get milk, chicken, and cereal. I also end up getting soup, a new bubble bath, a replacement of my body wash, and a new leave-in conditioner. 27.66 (my half)
Third stop is the pet store. I grab a flat of M’s wet food. At the checkout the cashier asks if I want to donate some canned food to the local rescue as they just picked up nearly 100 kittens. That suckers me and I say yes. I also note that they’re accepting old blankets/comforters, as we just switched our duvet out, and the old one is fluffy and perfect for furbabies. 32.29 (my half)
Lastly, I go to Canadian Tire to pick up an online order I placed. It was paid for last week. It’s a gift wrap storage bin as we accumulated a bunch of rolls last year and the cats keep scratching it. Canadian Tire is fun because they have these lockers they place your order in now, and give you a pin to pick it up, so I don’t even interact with anyone. In and out.
2:00: Home and everything sanitized and put away. I wipe down my phone and watch and throw my gloves in the washer as they’re looking kind of grimy. Have a rest with K.
5:00: We play fetch and S comes home. K runs around like crazy. I go upstairs and work on a paper.
7:00: I have an appetite! I manage about 6 pieces of ravioli and some yogurt. S makes chicken wings for himself.
8:00: Go upstairs to finish off my paper and get my steps in. M is whining at me so we play with his favourite toy, a piece of twine. I do my crossword, drag the twine, and do my steps at the same time. It’s called multitasking. I make a lemon ginger tea. It’s disgusting but I drink it all as I’ve heard it has great benefits for your stomach. Does anyone else just not like tea? I’ve tried tons - thanks to Teavana at work - but I’m really only a real Indian cha girl.
9:30: I finish my steps, do my closing tasks, take a melatonin, do my skincare, and head to bed. Goodnight world.
Daily Total: 105.88
Day Four - Friday
7:45: Everyone is being very loud and banging around this morning.
8:20: Feed the zoo, let out K. It is snowing again and it is a vicious -27C outside. I have my coffee.
9:30: Realize my paper is due today. It’s mostly finished so I don’t fret. Eat cereal and start a load of laundry, and then vacuum.
10:30: Get distracted looking up refurbished Apple Pencils. I don’t need one, I don’t need one… I click out of the page. Then reopen it. Then exit it again and watch TikToks instead.
11:00: I pluck my eyebrows - something I’ve done on my own for about 7 years now. I wonder how much money that’s saved me. I put on snail essence but don’t do a full skincare routine as I intend on a shower. I do a full hair treatment with a desi hair oil. I wrap it up in a bun and get to work on finishing my paper.
1:00: Finish and submit. I air fry pork buns for lunch. My stomach feels way better today. Maybe the tea made some points…
3:00: Finished my shower. My natural curl has come back in full force. I used to have tiny ringlets as a kid and they vanished with age. Then I saw a TikTok (again, lol) which essentially said: if you’re not white, why are you using white hair products? I switched to desi & black hair products a month ago and the difference has been crazy.
5:30: S is home and K is immediately crazy. I really miss our walks. I decide to corral him momentarily in the bathroom and hide his kibble around the main floor so he can do his sniffari for dinner. He loved this game!
7:00: I try to build a Notion dashboard. This is too hard. I eat some more ravioli. Sorry for my five-year-old diet in this. It’s a bowel rest diet.
8:00: Crossword, steps, and M play time.
9:30: Closing tasks! Then bed.
Daily total: $0
Day Five - Saturday
7:45: Woken up by the usual ruckus.
8:30: Blah, blah, blah. Have my coffee. Make an egg sandwich because Saturdays are chaos and I need the protein.
9:30: Do my skincare, makeup, and hair while a nervous pit opens up in my stomach. Not only is it a cool -35C out, but Saturdays are terrible at work. I’m not a crier and have never cried at any place of employment until Saturdays @ the Siren. It’s gotten worse during the pandemic as people crave normalcy and to them, getting their coffee every Saturday is normal. But they refuse to treat us with any decency. It’s hard when you are treated as expendable so that white-collar WFH/SFH families can berate you over how long their $40 order takes. (I work in a very wealthy area.)
Also, if I am put in the drive-thru window, I will be very grumpy about it.
1:00: I was put on bar, which is a lot of responsibility on a Saturday. I buy a butter croissant and drink a mint tea on my break. 2.38
3:00: Someone yells at me about the bathrooms being closed.
3:30: I eat the last of my pasta at lunch and have a blacktea lemonade.
5:00: Someone returns a drink twice for not being the right shade of pink. She tries a third time and I politely tell her another store can make the moment right, since we clearly can’t. I hate Saturdays.
5:30: Free and covered in syrup, milk, and a mango dragonfruit that exploded at my feet. I take a hot shower and decide my day is done, so I do my skincare and remove my makeup and contacts.
8:00: S finishes gaming with his brother and I make a stir-fry sans veggies for dinner.
9:30: Closing tasks, except no mopping because the ground is frozen so K hasn’t brought in any tracks. I floss, jade roll, and fall asleep.
Daily Total: 2.38
Day Six - Sunday
8:24: M pats me awake.
9:00: I apologize for this being the most boring Money Diary of all time. Coffee and toast for breakfast.
12:00: Bummed around all morning but did a vacuum and started a load of laundry. Tomorrow is our weekly “reset” day so I don’t have much to do today. I work at 5 PM.
I research photobooks on Shutterfly. I have 30,000 photos sitting in my Google Drive and a backup hard drive. It’s serving me no use so I want to go through them, make photobooks, and delete the rest off of my computer (keeping them in their backups.) They’re currently 50% off but it would take me a long time to do seven years’ worth of books so I can’t (and won’t) pull the trigger now, but I also know Shutterfly and vistaprint host many sales, so I’m not too fussed.
2:00: We have a Zoom call with S’s family to do a late Christmas opening together. The kids (and adults!) love their gifts. We talk about the cold and about the new niece or nephew on the way.
4:30: I go upstairs and get dressed for work. S is driving me so I don’t have to worry about starting my car in the cold. It is supposed to reach -41C.
5:30: I forgot it was Superbowl Sunday. Our store is located next to the turnoff into the plaza so we try and count how many Ubers are coming in for food pickups but get bored of that. Somehow I get water on the ceiling.
7:00: I eat an “expired” croissant and drink a mint tea on my break. A woman comes through drive-thru for just a cookie. She says she didn’t know there was a Starbucks here so she had to settle for another coffee chain’s iced coffee, and then drove by and saw us. I tell her to wait and come back with a free iced coffee because no one should be subjected to the other chain’s. To my surprise she bursts into tears. A very wholesome interaction.
8:30: It’s so dead my supervisor lets the other closer go home because we’re basically done for the night and he lives 40 minutes from the store.
9:30: I leave with my coffee bean markout and another “expired” croissant, as well as a blacktea lemonade for S. We wait to make sure my supervisor’s car starts as she drives a ten-year-old minivan that recently got rear-ended, and it didn’t start last night apparently, so she had to wait for her husband to come boost her as everyone had left. She flashes her lights at us and we leave. S wants McDonald’s but I don’t so he orders and pays for just himself.
10:30: Done closing tasks. I had some soup for dinner. Bed time.
Daily Total: $0
Day Seven - Monday
8:00: I did not sleep well. M bites me and I grumble at him and hide under the covers. S gets up and feeds the animals instead.
8:45: Everyone is waiting for me to come downstairs. Being a pet mom is like being a celebrity.
9:30: Coffee and my croissant from last night for breakfast.
10:30: It’s reset day. Every Monday I clean out the fridge, dust/clean the appliances and cupboards, wash the sheets, do a major vacuum (we do small vacuums during the week but I have a Bissell Crosswave and use it every week to suck up the oodles of pet hair.) and refill canisters. I also do some self care tasks like a serious eyebrow groom, a hair oil, an Aztec face mask, clipping all my nails/painting my toenails, and in the shower I shave my legs for the week. The animals also get a spa day. We check toenails and brush them out.
Then the week is nicely set up and we don’t have to worry about this stuff until next Monday!
S is braving the weather to go to the grocery store. He comes back with a full haul as there was quite a bit of discounted meat. We put it in the freezer. 48.33 (my half)
2:30: I finish the main floor items and go upstairs to find S and the cats in the nap den bed. I decide to crawl in too and we have a major cuddle nap. K isn’t allowed upstairs so the cats have a space away from him, but we spend a lot of time downstairs with him, so I don’t feel too bad.
4:30: Up from the nap and do the upstairs chores, and then a shower. I break halfway to have some soup.
7:00: House is clean, I am clean, and animals are clean! S and I make Cajun rice for dinner. I do my steps and crossword puzzle.
9:30: Closing tasks, lights out!
Daily Total: 48.33

I am in my early 30s, make $75k a year ($120k joint), live in the South, work as a Development Director, and hate capitalism but love a little luxury!

Edited to remove the tables because when I obsessively checked this post on my phone I couldn't read them?? Also I tried to, but was prevented from, editing the title. I know it looks sanctimonious but that's just one small part of my personality I swear. D:
❤️ Section 1: Assets and Debt
Total Net Worth: $30,875 - all equity.
Retirement Balance: $0 for me; $20,500 for my husband in the state pension program for teachers. (My partner, L, has been paying into the state teachers' pension system for 5 years. For most of my 20s, I either worked at very low-paying jobs, or supported myself and others on a teacher’s salary, so no retirement for me. My current job does not have a retirement program, but one of my goals for this year is to either start a Roth IRA or get a new job with a 401k match… or maybe both?)
Savings Account Balance: $23,733 We’re moving this summer to a city closer to our families, and are saving all we can for a down payment on a dreamy spot. After we move, some amount of what’s left over will go into a retirement fund, and the rest will stay in this HYSA as our emergency fund. For us, three months of expenses, including childcare, is about $18,000.

Credit Card Debt: n/a, pay off each month
Student Loan Debt: $80,000 for L’s undergrad and MAT. $18,000 for my undergrad and (unfinished) MAT. (My undergrad degrees were mostly covered by the Pell Grant, scholarships, and a $10,000 529 from my parents. L was a nontraditional student - didn’t start undergrad until he was 24 - so none of his was covered. Most of my debt is for a MAT program I dropped out of after one year. I was trying to find any way out of teaching at the time (it is demanding, all-consuming, and carceral at once) and thought a PhD would be my only route. When I got my current job I promptly left the program and any dreams of a PhD behind.)
Equity: $83,875 (This number is from an online equity calculator, and is for our house in a very popular neighborhood in a very popular city. Our outstanding debt on the house is $295,000. We put our whole savings down in 2019, which was $9,000 at the time.)
❤️ Section 2: Income
Monthly Take Home: My base pay is $65,000, and L’s is $45,000. I worked a side gig last year that totaled about $10k in additional compensation; all of it went to savings so we don't budget for it. My take home is $4096/month for my full time job, and my current side gig income (grant writing) is variable, between $300 and $600 a month. L’s take home is $2262/month. My health insurance is paid in full by work. L’s insurance and B’s come out of L’s paycheck, as does L’s retirement contribution.
Income Progression: I’ve been working since I was 15 years old, moved out for college at 18, and paid my own bills starting that year. I won’t include that money here though (it was like $12,000 a year as a college student, for reference). Income below starts when I graduated with two BAs that had nothing to do with teaching.
Year 1: $15,600 (part time ABA therapist, full time baby anarchist)
Year 2: $32,000 (year 1 teacher salary: I accepted a spot in Teach for America for this giant salary even though I thought it was an obnoxious neoliberal org. Yes, I was also obnoxious at the time.)
Year 3: $33,000 (teacher, step increase)
Year 4: $34,000 (teacher, step increase)
Year 5: $35,000 (teacher, step increase)
Year 6: $15,000 (community organizer; at the time this felt like a dream job)
Year 7: $20,000 (community organizer & cafe worker)
Year 8: $40,000 (back to teaching, felt rich; this includes a side hustle writing grants on the side for $50 an hour)
Year 9: $45,000 (left teaching for my current job, quit the grants side hustle)
Year 10: $55,000 (got a raise, got pregnant)
Year 11: $65,000 (got a raise and promotion, had a baby)
Year 12: $75,000 (was promoted again in January but waiting on the pay increase to hit, hopefully with backdating. This money diary doesn’t reflect this salary as it hasn’t been reflected in my check yet)
❤️ Section 3: Expenses
Mortgage/PMI/Insurance: $2,110
Retirement Contribution: n/a (L’s retirement is pulled out of his check before he receives it: it’s $169 a month. Right now, I don’t have a retirement contribution)
Savings Contribution: $1000 to main savings, $400 to sinking fund (This is a super aggressive goal for us and is only possible because our childcare costs are covered by work)
Debt Payments: n/a right now (We have student loans to the tune of $100k but haven’t been paying a dime since they were paused due to COVID. But then the other day I checked and saw they've gained interest? Should we be paying them then? WWJD? I legit don’t know.)
Electric: $130
Internet: $100
Cellphone: $65 (For L & I both. We are on a bigass family plan with 40 gajillion other people.)
Subscriptions: $45 ($10 Spotify; $10 Youtube music; $2.99 Apple data (Why?!); $22 NYT (for newspaper and cooking app); also have a split subscription to the New Yorker with bestie F but we paid for a yearly deal.)
Car Payment and Insurance: $150 for a car payment; $202 for insurance (Insurance covers both of our used cars and my dad’s used handicap van. Our car payment is for our used Honda. We only owe $6,850 on the car and I’m back and forth on whether to pay it off with savings)
Medical/Therapy: $0 (My therapist is $140 a session, and I just started seeing her again once a month, but this is reimbursed by work. I also get an inhaler at least twice a month - that’s reimbursed too, costs $60 total.)
Misfits Market: $120 (For a weekly box, which really helps us cut down on overall grocery cost)
Gym membership: $30 (For my intense local yoga studio’s app which is so great in the winter. We also run and bike a lot, as long as it’s warm enough)
Donations: $100 (We give monthly to our local Democratic Socialists of America; the Working Families Party; and a small, local org. I’m also on an organizing committee for that org. We’ll give them one big gift of at least $250 this year, probably in May. I support a couple organizations with grant writing and grant-finding support as much as I can, which usually amounts to a few hours a month.)
Childcare: $0 B goes to a very precious Montessori preschool, and we can walk him there. It’s pricey af ($1300/month). The other $200 is to account for some babysitting from my little sister when L or I have to work weird hours. For now, work reimburses this full amount as a COVID perk; if that changes, we will have to cut costs significantly.
House cleaner: $160 (They come twice a month and charge $80 each time.)
❤️ Section 4: Money Diary
NOTE: We are masked and afraid everywhere we go.
DAY 1: THURSDAY✨
4:20 am: Good morning world! I shuffle into the kitchen in my panties and my slippers to fill up the gooseneck kettle. I recently got into pour over coffee even though it’s quite a commitment. With a toddler, a full-time job, and a Libra sun, I don’t really have time for meditative morning routines. This lengthy, half-naked coffee regimen is my closest attempt. As soon as I get the coffee brewing, our 18 month old, B, starts making noise. I open the door and see he’s got his pacifier in his mouth and his pillow in his arms. He wants to lay with Dada. I help him get in the bed with my husband, L, as quietly as possible. Last week L was super sick and we thought for sure he had picked up COVID. Blessedly all of our tests came back negative, but on the heels of that, he started having major tooth pain and had to have an emergency tooth extraction, AND he got an ear infection as he was coming down from whatever virus he had. I hate it :(
I get dressed and do some chores while they snooze to ease L's morning. I start the diaper laundry (usually his job - we use cloth), put away the dishes, start the Eufy vacuum, and get B and L’s breakfasts together: sunbutter and a little bit of syrup on some banana pancakes I prepped earlier this week.
6:30 am: B and L are up! The hour before we take B to preschool is kind of a marathon. L eats with B (and supervises his syrup consumption) as I clean out some more dirty diapers, brush my teeth, make another cup of coffee, strip our sheets, spray my hair with water to refresh the curl, return a few group texts, and wash some breakfast dishes. Somewhere in here I also eat two boiled eggs with Everything But the Bagel seasoning, and a bunch of grapes.
I help L get B loaded up in the car, and just as they pull off, my parents Facetime me. They’re calling to see B but are polite enough to talk to me for a few minutes. They live a few hours away, and are divorced, but cohabitating. The full story is long and spiritual for me so I’ll spare you. Anyway, my mom and I talk for a while about this couch she thinks I should buy from one of her friends, but it’s two hours away and we’d have to rent a U-Haul, so I think we’ll pass. I do hate our current couch though. Please drop comfy toddler- and dog-friendly recommendations in the comments!
8:15 am: I set out to walk the dog and listen to the Daily’s recent update on the coronavirus. Donald G. McNeill, Jr., says we’re in this through the summer, which is a bummer on the personal and global front, but I suppose it could be worse??? Maybe?? As soon as they finish talking I switch over to You’re Wrong About. I’m deep in the Jessica Simpson series and highly recommend this pod for any other nerdy, lefty, kinda burnt out millennials, especially those of you that are queer or queer-adjacent. Once home, I take my whole operation onto the front porch to work, since the cleaner will be here soon and I don’t want to crowd her in this time of COVID. I LOVE a clean house and I love paying someone else to do the big stuff, which is a recent luxury for us.
11:00 am: I’ve been working steadily in my email and google docs for a couple hours now, and it’s COLD out here. The cleaner leaves and I am grateful to go back into the heat. I Venmo her $80 for the cleaning (included in monthly expenses). I take a break from work and check out the job boards. My current job is the best, and highest-paying, gig I’ve ever had, but I’m planning to leave some time this year for several reasons. The premier reason: I recently learned that I’m qualified for several positions that pay over $100k at similar organizations. With that kind of money we could pay off our student loans, help our families out more, make sizable donations, and L could explore a career outside of teaching without freaking about a slight cut in his pay for a few years as he finds his niche. Or - maybe he’ll get into Edtech somehow and we’ll join Resource Generation. Who knows.
12:30 pm: I have a quick break and pull together lunch: half a cheese quesadilla, a big bowl of Smitten Kitchen’s roasted tomato soup, and a LimonCello LaCroix. L is on his planning period and asks me to edit his most recent job application, and I oblige. Since we’re both job hunting, I ask him if I can buy a resume template and guide on Etsy. I have sworn off online shopping for the year to curb my impulse spending, but he says we’ll just count this one as his purchase. Great news because I hate the formatting of my resume from 2016 and don’t want to fix it myself! $9.95
3:30 pm: My Zooms are over, my inbox is at 0, and I put up my out of office message because I’m taking the day off tomorrow to work on my resume and do some things to prep our house for sale. My high-functioning anxiety created an ambitious backwards timeline for this process back in December, and that timeline currently runs my life. I work for a few more minutes to tie up loose ends, and then walk O to a nearby shop to buy my favorite candle, curbside-style. When I get there the owner gives me some percentage off because it’s slightly discolored from the sun. Huzzah! $27.25, marked down from $40
4:45 pm: My angel of a baby sister, J, who lives just a few blocks away and is in a pod with us, comes to hang out with B for an hour so L can rest. I head to my good friend D’s place for my investment overalls appointment. She's going to alter their awkward wide leg into more of a tapered, mom jean shape. I have a capsule wardrobe which means I’ll wear these babies at least once a week, and plus I get to pay my friend, so I’m fine with the extra expense. When I arrive, she and her partner have the fire pit going, and we drink a couple glasses of wine together, yet more than 6 feet apart. I learn they are planning to move to the same new city as us in the next couple of years and legit cry happy tears.
Afterwards, I head out to pick up dinner for tonight. We are getting burgers from L’s favorite place as a treat. On my way, the WOLF MOON appears over the water and my stomach does triple flips. Then I pick up our dinner: a veggie burger with eggplant jam and kale for me; a real-meat burger with mushrooms, bacon, swiss, carmelized onion, and horseradish mayo for L; and an appetizer plate with pretzels, pimento cheese, onion jam, pickles, and chips for B. Delicious and unhealthy. The total is $34.54.
6:30: Home and eating dinner. B loves his meal, especially the “chokes.” He calls pretzels “chokes” because when L first started feeding them to him, I worried aloud that he would choke every time. I just couldn’t stop thinking about how a pretzel almost took out George W. Bush. Turns out our toddler is better at chewing than George W. Bush.
After dinner, L gives B a bubble bath while I do my own, very minimal, bedtime routine. Then L and I lay down with B to put him to sleep. He has a floor bed, which is a Montessori thing I learned about on mom blogs. L is a very hot and talented woodworker, so he took my floor bed dream to the next level by building a lovely house-shaped frame. The top beam is wrapped in twinkle lights and fake ivy. It’s a nice place to sleep, and we pass out here all the time.
10:30 pm: L wakes me up and we wander to our own bed.
🌿 DAILY TOTAL: 71.74
DAY 2: FRIDAY
4:15 am: Wake up and go look at the clock. Decide this is a silly time to get up on a day off, drink some water, and go lay back down. But once in bed all I can think about is how much I want to read the news, organize my resume, and update this money diary. This is the problem with falling asleep at toddler time. So I get up again at 4:45, make my coffee, read a New Yorker article about Biden’s pandemic response on my phone, and sit down to work on this diary.
6:00 am: L wakes up! He works on breakfast for himself and B and I start meal planning for the month. This is one of my best and most recent life hacks. I found that if I chart out our cooking, weekly takeout, and leftovers at the start of the month, we save lots of money and are so much less stressed about the labor that goes into feeding ourselves. I pull out Smitten Kitchen Every Day and use it to inspire the month’s meals. So quaint to cook from an actual BOOK.
6:45 am: B walks out of our room and announces that he drank my water off the side table. He’s so proud! And so ready to eat. While he eats breakfast, I snack on some grapes and, at B’s request, blast 7 Days A Week by They Might Be Giants. This is the consummate children’s song for any household that dreams of a self-determined world. Over the next hour I take B to school; make myself a real breakfast (a soy chorizo and egg taco); and browse TikTok. Eventually I find a series about this Gamestop situation by a smart Irish woman and L and I watch it together. When it’s over we feel like shrewd stock brokers ready to win money, and L gets to work teaching virtually.
I spend the morning painting our front door and our kitchen wall to prep our house to sell, and talking to my (other) little sister on the phone. She’s an HR person with a job that’s taken her far away from our family, and we don’t talk that often. It is so good to catch up on her life. After that I have a fun, day-off Zoom call with longtime bestie and coworker K. We drink coffee and talk about The Future.
12:30 pm: I make lunch (tomato soup with goat cheese on top, and a savory scone on the side) and get a text from another bestie, M, who offers me a little grant writing contract work this week. Yay! I love them and love working with them. Next, I order our groceries for the week. I get baking powder, eggs, cremini mushrooms, vegan sausage patties, oat milk, ginger root, shredded cheddar cheese, plantains, black beans, doggy bags, broccoli, vegan chicken strips, artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers, capers, ciabatta bread, grits, bananas, avocados, greek yogurt, and on impulse, a pineapple on sale (?!). Maybe B will love it. The total comes to $94.08.
1:15 pm: I do a brief power vinyasa class in B’s room and take a shower. It takes me approximately two Drake songs to shower and dry off, as I don’t have to wash my hair today and I never shave. I work on my resume until L and I leave to pick up B. On the way home we stop at the park to play, and then we all get in the car to pick up groceries.
6:30 pm: We get home later than planned and eat together: leftover tofu ramen for us and veggie lasagna for B, who is so sleepy that he hardly touches his lasagna. L gets him in the bath around 7:15 and I run through my evening routine. There’s a lot going on in the house - preschool lunch and clothes to put up, a mountain of laundry in our room, all of the groceries for the week waiting to be put away, and dinner dishes are languishing in the sink. L starts on chores while I get B dressed.
As I’m dressing B, my mom Facetimes and B shows her several of his board books. While we’re talking my dad texts me a heart emoji - he overheard B and my mom talking from his room. He lives with a disability and a painful illness, so he goes to bed very early. We hang up with my mom and record a video of B making “P” sounds and saying “I love you” to my dad, and send it over. This is the first time B’s ever said “I love you!” Huge news. We read books and fall asleep next to B.
9 pm: I wake up and nudge L but he wants to keep sleeping. I go clean the dinner dishes, put away the food and reorganize the cabinets and fridge, and mop the kitchen floor while I listen to The Daily’s latest reporting on QAnon believers who are at once totally bananagrams and also remind me very much of my aunt. L wakes up at 9:30 because he and Y, my sister’s boyfriend, are gonna game. Cute! He finishes the laundry and I fold a few diapers to help out. Then we lay in bed together until game time, when I fall asleep.
🌿 DAILY TOTAL: 94.08
DAY 3: SATURDAY
5:40 am: Wake up at a ~*~weekend hour~*~!! Start my kettle, clean and moisturize my face, pull out the ingredients for waffles, and pick up around the house while I wait for it to boil. I try to read some, but get bored a few pages in. I’m currently reading How to Do Nothing and it’s good enough, but I think I need to chill on the nonfiction and read, like, saucy romance novels with hot bisexual leads. Send me your recs please!
Waffle time! This recipe is my go-to. I recommend whipping the egg whites first. B wakes up around 7:15 and helps me cook which is cute and very messy. He eats his waffle with honey, peanut butter, and grapes. L wakes up after him - he had a late night gaming!
8 am: I open yesterday’s mail and find an anti-abortion DVD from L’s grandma. It’s Abby Johnson’s “memoir.” Abby Johnson is an opportunistic right winger and documented liar who once moonlighted as a Planned Parenthood clinic manager. L is a preacher’s kid, so we’re not surprised to receive this from his grandma. For example: 10 years ago, when L and I were a couple years into our relationship, her Christmas gift to me was a book about how one can recover from being a slut by getting married and finding Jesus. This particular package really sends me over the edge, though. I decide to write them a short note later that states my own experience with abortion and sets a clear boundary on this kind of propaganda, and includes an article about Abby Johnson’s bullshit life. It’s unlikely this will change their minds - they are septuagenarian Southern Baptists, after all - but at least I’ll be in my integrity.
In the meantime, I group text L’s siblings, and they commiserate with us. His one sibling who is transitioning shares that grandma recently sent them a book about how to tell your gay friends they’re sinning. We agree that’s hilariously dense (and fucking rude) of her, and talk about how everyone under forty is a gay slut living their best life, so really it’s grandma’s loss. During this time I clean the kitchen, finish the waffles, and freeze them for B’s weekday breakfasts.
9:30 am: B asks to use the potty and does a great job peeing on his own! He’s geeked about it and is especially excited to have my parents on Facetime cheering him on. After that we head out on our morning walk. L takes B to the playground and I take O to the dog park nearby. She gets tired pretty quick and we all head to the thrift store. We need chairs for our hand-me-down kitchen table. The ones that came with it are awkwardly wide. L spots two sturdy ones that are just $5 each. Score! $10
11:30 am: B and L are both wiped out once we get home. They eat lunch and go to sleep. I clean up the kitchen, repot one of my plants, water our porch plants, and eat some leftover ramen for lunch. The Marie Antoinette episode of You’re Wrong About keeps me company all the while. 10/10 would recommend.
2 pm: B wakes up and eats some lunch. We watercolor together for a while (he on his big paper, I in my bullet journal), then walk down the street to the local high school while L preps potatoes for our fondue. The high school grounds are open on the weekends, and there’s an amphitheatre on site. B loves the echo in there.
4:30 pm: L joins us in the amphitheatre and together we drag B two blocks back home. I prep the fondue: brie, gouda, and more gouda with white wine. It ends up being a little clumpy but so delicious. My sister, J, and her boyfriend, Y arrive while I’m cooking. Y brings yummy baguettes from his bakery job for the dipping and we prep broccoli, green beans, and tempeh too. We sit down in our new chairs to eat and for the zillionth time I am so thankful we’ve been able to make a pod together this year. Fondue would be a terrifying proposition with anyone else, really.
While we eat, Y tells us he put in his two weeks at the bakery because their COVID protocols aren’t so tight and his coworkers are continuing to go to bars and out to eat. His plan for now is to get back on unemployment and find a virtual job sometime soon. Both he and my sister have worked food service their whole adult lives so the pandemic has been tough on them. Besides the fact that they’re delightful and perfect, this is one key reason we’re planning to move with them to our new city this summer: L and I will be able to easily afford the majority of the rent, deposits, and utilities on a pretty big, and centrally located, house. Living together will allow us to grow our savings and take our time looking for a Forever Home, and will allow J and Y to pay really low rent as my sister goes back to school full time and Y looks for a full-time job. I’m really looking forward to living with them and know it’ll be good for B, too. They leave around 7 pm and we put B to bed, this time without falling asleep ourselves!
8:30 pm: Turn on How I Met Your Mother in bed and the episodes are baaaaad bad. One entire episode casts sex workers as a punch line. Ick. L and I agree to find a new show, and fall asleep around 10.
11 pm - 2 am: B is up and between our two beds. Wahhhh.
🌿 DAILY TOTAL: 10
DAY 4: SUNDAY
6 am: Up and at ‘em! Discover I’m out of my fancy coffee and don’t want to emphasize the flavor of our grocery store beans with a slow pour, so make a french press instead. B wakes up too early so we watch toddlers together on TikTok while I drink my coffee, then read books while L makes us all eggs for breakfast. We head out for our morning walk around 9 am and stop at a coffee shop a few blocks away. I pick up Counter Culture’s Iridescent beans, buy an espresso brownie on a whim, and tip the cashier because she’s so sweet and tipping is good. The total is 23.03. L takes B to the playground and I drop my purchases and O back at the house before I head out for a run.
9:45 am: It’s 65 degrees and my run is glorious. I run to the water and pause Lil Yachty for a minute to take it all in. Once home I shower and put on a black LA Apparel catsuit and a marled black and white cocoon sweater from AA of the past (I like what I like!). We feed B lunch and then L puts him down while I clean up.
Around 11:30, J comes over after to watch B while we remove the storm windows from our whole house and clean the windows underneath as part of our work to prep the house for sale. We’re a solid team: L removes the storm windows and caulks all the gaps in the wood while I follow behind him and wash the windows inside and out. Our sweet neighbor catches us cleaning and offers to let us use her power washer for free next weekend to clean up the front of the house. I resolve to bake them some cookies.
2:30 pm: We are done with the window operation and it’s time for me to water all 57 plants in the house. Along the way, discover that I overwatered B’s hoya last week and it’s rotting. Noooo! I unpot it on the porch to dry the roots, but it’s raining so this might not work. There’s only one surefire solution: buy a replacement plant! I try to convince L we should go to the nursery, but he’s not so into it. I walk around dejectedly with a towel to clean up all the water I spilled, and Zelle J $70 for babysitting even though she insists she would do it for free. Next B, L, and I share a snack: crackers with goat cheese and harissa. Mmm. B skips the harissa but loves the goat cheese. Meanwhile I begin to stress about making dinner. We’d planned goddess bowls but L and I just aren’t feeling it after our marathon of house work. L requests Chinese and is suddenly more amenable to visiting the nursery, which is near our favorite Chinese takeout spot. Score!
5:00 pm: We leave the plant shop with a heartleaf philodendron for B’s room and a giant, lovely, perfect monstera deliciosa just because. The total comes to $53.24. Then we pick up our food: $33.08 including the tip. L ordered a large veggie lo mein to share with B and General Tso’s chicken, and I got family style tofu and vegetables. We start B’s bedtime routine at 6:30 and he’s out by 7:00 - early for him!
After he’s down, L preps his breakfast sandwiches for the week and I do some dishes. Then we take mutual advantage of the extra hour we have together. Even after 12 years it’s always so good with L. I fall asleep around 10 pm feeling blessed.
🌿 Daily total: 179.32
DAY 5: MONDAY
5 am: I make my pour over and get started on work first thing. I have a couple of deadlines this week and the side gig to balance so I’m already feeling pressed for time! I wrap up an entire grant report before 6 am and feel very accomplished. Then I pause work to start our breakfast, which is all pre-prepped, hallelujah. While L and B eat breakfast, I get dressed in a black turtleneck minidress, busted old tights, black ankle socks, and my Doc Martens.
I help L load up the car with B and all his gear, and tell L to be careful. Today is L’s first day back teaching in person since December, and we’re both nervous since COVID is still running wild in our red state. On the way to work he fills up his car for $18.33.
2:30 pm: After another grant report, seventy gajillion emails, forty Slack messages, and several hours of Zoom calls, I’m ready for a break. I finish eating the quinoa salad I prepped during Zoom call #2 and then eat a pear too. I see our Misfits box has been delivered. It’s $30 a week, and is included in our monthly expenses. I unpack it, clean the counters, wipe down the bathroom sinks, take O for a walk, and sit down to work on my side gig grant report, which is due Wednesday. I set a 30 minute timer because I don’t want to be too late picking up B.
4:25 pm: Worked longer than I meant to! Pack some snacks and pick up B. On the way home we get a giant bag of potting soil so I can repot those plants. It’s $18.52. Come home and engage in B’s favorite winter activity: pressing all the buttons in the turned-off car. Meanwhile, in another car across town, L picks up a big bag of Purina One, butter, maple syrup, and applesauce. That total is $28.64.
5:30 pm: The whole family is home and we kick it inside until it starts to get dark. L and I gather all the things and take the creatures out for a walk even though there’s a light, but very cold, rain happening. B is cranky and so are we, so the walk is quick.
We eat leftover Chinese food around 7 and start B’s bedtime routine. B falls asleep at 8 and I update this diary for a while, then go watch Ted Lasso in bed with L til about 9:30. It’s much better than How I Met Your Mother, for the record.
🌿 DAILY TOTAL: 65.51
Day 6: TUESDAY
3 am: B wakes up and needs a diaper change. I have the hardest time falling back asleep after: I can’t stop thinking about how I left B’s hoya out in the cold with its roots exposed most of the day yesterday and into tonight. But it’s too cold for me to get up again and pull it inside! So instead I toss and turn and hope it’s not dead yet.
6 am: L’s alarm wakes me up! No early morning reading and writing time for me. I get right up, make a giant pour over, and get breakfast together while L wakes up B. Then I actually sit down with them to eat: B and I both eat boiled eggs with everything but the bagel seasoning and some coconut milk yogurt, and L sips his coffee while his breakfast sandwich heats in the oven. I get dressed in my workout gear and walk the dog while L gets B ready for school. They leave, and I finally bring the hoya in, and start work, around 7:30. L buys coffee and snacks from the gas station on his way to work: $6.88.
9:30 am: I grab some crackers and peanut butter from the kitchen and notice a DMV bill on the fridge I’ve been meaning to pay, but don’t totally understand. I call them up and respond to emails while I sit on hold. Turns out I owe the DMV $10 for paying my Dad’s van insurance late. With the “processing fee” it comes to $11.17.
1:30 pm: Been on Zoom calls all morning, and decide to switch over to the side gig work for a bit. Meanwhile I eat that quinoa salad I prepped yesterday. At 2 pm, my longtime bestie and neighbor F comes over and we take O for a walk in the park together and have such a good conversation. While the context is (very) different, I’m reminded of the Toni Morrison quote when I think of F: “She’s a friend of my mind.” Such a gem, and such a smartie. At 3:30 I start a HIIT yoga class and it kicks my butt even though it’s only 20 minutes long. Afterwards, I shower and pick up B.
5:00 pm: L arrives home while B and I are playing, and we get in the car once more to check out a cute couch L scoped out on Facebook marketplace. It’s a sweet vintage brown velvet actually-for-real midcentury situation. Unfortunately we discover it’s also small and very uncomfortable. $200 not spent. Once home, my family goes for a walk and I make dinner - this grits and beans recipe from NYT cooking. It’s blessedly quick to pull together. Meanwhile D texts me and says my overalls are ready! YAY! She’s gonna drop them off in a couple of days. She says the total is $30. I include a tip and Venmo her $40.
7:00 pm: At bedtime, B cannot get enough of his books and we read All The World several times. He finally falls asleep around 8:20 and L and I eat dinner on the couch, with Ted Lasso. I drink a glass of red wine, which is a mistake: my anxiety spikes right after, my stomach hurts, and I can’t sleep. This is very upsetting as I want very much to be a wine mom. Does this happen to anyone else?
🌿 DAILY TOTAL: 58.05
DAY 7: WEDNESDAY
5:45 am: Wake up with B cuddled into my back - L moved him to our bed in the middle of the night after his second wake up. Get my coffee and breakfast together and sit down at my computer to work on the side gig grant while everyone's asleep. Then L and I manage the morning rush together. I eat sourdough toast, two scrambled eggs, and some pineapple along the way.
7:30 am: Take O out for a walk and on a whim decide to listen to one of my favorite easy-listening pods: A Beautiful Mess. Normally the two sisters and co-hosts, Elsie and Emma, chat about things like home decor or craft making or how to balance kids and work. This episode is about the host’s evangelical upbringing, though, and is a real raw and honest tear jerker. Pair it with this, one of my top reads of 2020: “What Does the White Evangelical Want?” It gets me thinking about L’s upbringing in the church. He and all his siblings are all agnostic now.
Finally sit down at my desk and debate taking Adderall. I used it regularly in college and for a few years after in order to Do All The Things. I try to stay away from it now - I’m not trying to live an impossible life any more - but I also really want to pick B up earlier than normal today, and that means I need to meet all my deadlines and make it through two Zoom calls with my direct reports by 3 pm. I decide to take 4 mg. Right after I take it, three different friends text me at once and then, suddenly, I’ve spent an hour catching up via text. Get to work for real around 9 am.
3:00 pm: Wrapped all my calls, answered all my emails, washed all the dishes, ate some lunch, and finished the side gig work! OK Adderall, you beautiful bitch. Spend a few more minutes tying up loose ends and then gather my things to pick B up from school. The plan today is to go “play basketball” in the park near his school because he is OBSESSED with balls, and I’m trying to do more magical things every day with him. It’s cold but I’m ready to brave it on his precious, curly-headed behalf.
At 4 pm J calls and asks to go pick him up with me. Hooray, things just got even more magical! We head to a different-than-usual park together and run around until B sits in, and then drinks from, a puddle. We panic and J googles “What happens if my baby drinks from a puddle?” The search returns lots of stories of babies eating muddy rocks and surviving, so we decide it’s ok.
5:00 pm Head home and L is back from work! We take the smols on a walk and I tell L that I think nighttime screentime is making me anxious. I’m a sensitive creature and I really don’t want to blame the wine. He’s very perfect so he helps me think through an alternate plan for this evening: hot tea and book reading in bed, and maybe sex, too! Fun.
Next, I head home with O to pot the plants we bought the other day, and L takes B to the playground. They get back around 6:30 and I am very excited to reveal my new plant placements. Everyone feigns interest except O. Then we eat leftovers together and B gets in bed around 7:30. L and I promptly fall asleep next to him and don’t wake up again til 11 pm. Guess our new nighttime routine will have to wait til tomorrow!

❤️ Section 6: REFLECTION
This week reflects a new normal for us, I think! We just set the goal of saving up for another down payment in December, and that’s when I swore off online shopping both to save money and to stop lining the pockets of evil billionaires like Bezos (no shade to anyone who uses Amazon, this is purely a personal goal & I’m not sure I can meet it). This self-imposed rule is helping me reign in my discretionary spending overall. L and I have only been living a two-income, middle class life for a few years, and my lifestyle creep was a little out of control in 2020. That said, I can and do still regularly justify spending money on things that make life more luxurious and beautiful - like a $40 candle or a totally unnecessary but very lovely plant.
There are a couple of things not reflected in this diary that we regularly spend on: gifts (my achilles heel - for example, we spent three! thousand! dollars! on Christmas gifts in December), and medical bills. Both B and I had to visit the emergency room in 2020 and we are still getting random bills in the mail as our insurance company and the hospital duke it out. As I was editing this diary on Thursday, I received one for $787. Wahhhh. I think I’m gonna get on a payment plan, but even so that it will be over $200 a month.
Last thought: this process got me thinking in some detail about the contradiction of organizing for the fall of capitalism (and the rise of a more gentle and just economic system), yet believing everyone - including ourselves and our own families - deserve to live full and abundant lives. This means I compromise my own anti-capitalist values and beliefs every day, in big and small ways. Discuss?

TL;DR Lore: Everything from 2020

Hey everyone!
So this year, despite Covid’s problems, was pretty great lorewise, but some folks either have short attention spans, little time, or just forgot about checking it out, among other things. FOr that reason I’ve put this together: a TL;DR of this year’s new lore.
This post will focus primarily on our new champions and the various published stories, which can be found on the Universe site. Because of character limits for Reddit, I won’t be talking about champion bios or Runeterra worldbuilding in this post. If you’ve got questions about those, ask me in the comments!
Do note that this will be INSANELY spoiler ridden as I’ll be summarising every story released, with the exception of most cinematics cuz like, come on, those are 2-3 minute watchers guys.
NEW RELEASES AND VGUS
Before we start, it makes sense to talk about the champs who’re new to League and what their deal is, that being Sett, Fiddlesticks, Volibear, Lillia, Yone, Samira, Seraphine and Rell.
Sett
What’s his deal?
Born to an Ionian vastayan mother and a Noxian human, Sett was ostracized as a child, and after his father left home he started to get involved in fights, and eventually pit-fighting. This eventually escalated where he took control of the pits for himself, coming in to a position of power in the Ionian criminal underworld, all while keeping it a secret from his mother.
His Story: Big Head, Bad News
Last we saw him he was putting a subordinate in to the ground for being bitchy, and then lying to his mum about it.
Fiddlesticks
What’s it’s deal?
Fiddlesticks is the very concept of fear itself, and one of the “Ten Kings”, a group of mysterious spiritual entities. Fiddlesticks is described as both a king and key bearer for the other Ten. All cultures in Runeterra have myths and legends about Fiddlesticks, but most aren’t wholly believed to be true. Fiddlesticks is real though, and in the wake of civil unrest in Demacia, has taken to stalking the hinterlands, disappearing entire townsteads in its wake.
It’s Story: Voices
The main PoV character recounts how Fiddlesticks disappeared the town of Goldweald in a matter of days, commenting on how everyone started breaking down from their own fears, and how he eventually saw Fiddlesticks full on, and in it, saw something wholly terrible that knew him. By the story’s end the PoV character starts breaking down, before hearing the voice of someone who should be dead, indicating he’s brought Fiddlesticks with him.
TL;DR: Fiddlesticks ate a Demacian town and piggybacked on one dude so it could get a free ride to the next Demacian buffet.
Volibear
What’s his deal?
Volibear came to be before the arrival of the mortal races, existing in the ancient Freljord back when it was known as the Vorrijaard. Legends tell of how he and his demi-god kin like Anivia and Ornn shaped the lands with their deeds, but as mortal civilizations began cropping up, Volibear took offense. Despite his efforts to quell them, mortals endured and his worship got suppressed, leading to his downfall. Now, millennia later, he’s back and wants to return the Freljord back to its original, more primal and wild state.
His Story: Stormbringer
After an age of slumber and suppressed worship, the Volibear is called to with his ancient name “Valhir”. Awakened for the first time in centuries he storms across the Freljord and fights an army of Noxians, crushing them easily. Afterwards though, he notices the town and dam of those who called him; affronts to nature. He smashes the dam, destroying the town, and tells the people to live as nature intended them to, before heading out to deal with this problem of “civilization”.
TL;DR: Volibear bodies Noxians and Freljordians alike.
Lillia
What’s her deal?
Daughter of the Dreaming Tree, itself a descendent of the mythical God-Willow, Lillia is a unique entity, born from the tree’s own dreams, and tended her mother for years before ever meeting mortals. More recently, the Dreaming Tree has had burls growing in it, threatening to consume her, and Lillia has set out from the garden, to gather dreams from humanity that might help her mother tree recover.
Her Story: The Garden of Dreaming
She literally just got out of the Garden of Forgetting, where the Dreaming Tree grows, and helped a young girl through dreams of her wayward sister.
Yone
What’s his deal?
The older brother of Yasuo, he served as his half-brother’s anchor and guide. They trained at the same school, and when Master Souma turned up dead, Yone went after Yasuo, who killed him. His spirit went to the Spirit Realm, where he was accosted by an azakana born of his own emotions. He bested it, and somehow was resurrected with a mask stuck to his face. Now able to see azakana preying on others, he hunts them to uncover the mysteries behind his return.
His Story: Severed
He most recently helped a young lad being attacked by an azakana, sealing it and thus helping the boy overcome some of his issues, giving him some reassuring words before leaving.
Samira
What’s her deal?
A Shuriman woman born in Amakra, her home was attacked by raiders, leaving her and her family homeless. They escaped, and found safety in the Noxian occupied city of Bel’Zhun, leading to Samira coming to serve in the Noxian military. She earned great renown but was eventually discharged, and now operates through her old captain Indari, who gives her well paying, high end, highly risky mercenary work.
Her Story: Daredevil Impulse
Indari sent her out on a mission that puts her on the trail of a wanted criminal, none other than our newest champion Rell. The person funding the mission? None other than LeBlanc herself.
Seraphine
What’s her deal?
Born with an innate magical power to hear souls, Seraphine was born to Zaunite parents who managed to make it in Piltover. Her powers were too much for her, so her parents built a dampener with a brackern crystal. In this time she recognized a presence within the crystal, and it spoke to her briefly. Emboldened, she trained her magical abilities properly, began to work as a performer, and now wishes to use her music to help mend rifts between Zaunites and Piltovans, so the two cities can be truly reunited, all while trying to figure out what the crystal’s deal actually is.
Her Story: Standing Room Only
She had a live performance recently to a mixed Piltovan and Zaunite crowd, hoping to stir the brackern crystal and commune with it through bringing the audience in harmony with each other. It works, and by the story’s end she is readying herself to hear whatever the crystal’s got to say, if she’ll even know what it’s saying.
Rell
What’s her deal?
Born with the magic of ferromancy and with parents of different castes, Rell spent much of her life trained in an academy. However, as she grew older, she was infused with sigils by her teachers and her classmates began disappearing. This was because they were having their magic ripped from them to infuse in to Rell via said sigils, with the aim of making her a weapon to fight against Mordekaiser. The process left the children basically catatonic and soul broken: Null. Rell tore the school apart and set out on her own, wanting to get revenge on Noxus, while saving the kids.
Her Story: The Second Grave
Most recently she had a reencounter with an old teacher of hers and his entourage, who also held with them one of her former classmates. She murders them all, and finds her old friend dead from starvation. She buries him before heading on, with yet another reason now to continue on.
REGIONAL STORIES
Now that the new and the updated are out of the way, now let’s get on to the actual stories. This section is ordered: Ionia, Freljord, Noxus, Demacia, Bilgewater, everyone else, just cuz they got the most stuff this year.
ZED
Starring: Zed, Kayn, Jhin, Shen and Akali
While official starting in 2019, the comic ended in 2020, following a 6 issue run. The story follows Zed after Jhin is released from prison and attacks him directly. Zed goes to Shen for help, but Shen openly declares war on him and his order, telling him that he’ll handle Jhin alone.
Zed doesn’t sit idle though and gets a town blown up. Shen beats him bloody and the two finally have a chat about why Zed killed Master Kusho. After this the two team up to get Jhin, who’s gone to Piltover. Akali went ahead of them, but she gets trapped by him, though eventually she ends up being the lynchpin that causes Jhin’s downfall.
Shen and Akali take him to prison, while Zed goes back to confront his ally: Kusho. Turns out he didn’t kill him; he’d convinced him to seperate from the Kinkou so he could operate in the shadows to save Ionia from Noxus. Kusho had been the one to free Jhin, hoping to use him as a fearmongering tool that would force Ionia to rally and make war against Noxus. This is too far for Zed and they fight. Kusho dies and Zed goes back to his order. Kayn has dispatched those not loyal to Zed, but now their former allies, the Navori Brotherhood that Kusho led, will be their enemies.
TL;DR: Zed and Kayn are on EVERYONE’S shitlist now.
The Bow, and the Kunai
Starring: Akali, Kennen and Shen
Set about 10 years ago, only a few short weeks after Irelia’s besting of Swain at the Placidium of Navori, the Kinkou Order, battered and weakened, have reconvened in Shon-Xan to recover from Zed’s recent betrayal of their order. The story is told from the perspective of Faey; an acolyte of the Kinkou of only 12 years of age. Akali is 9 years old at this point.
After seeing a meeting of Kennen, Shen, and Akali’s mother Mayym, all three of whom serve as the Kinkou’s triumvirate of leaders, Faey decides to try and help the adults of the order by taking care of issues for them so they can focus on more important issues. She rallies the child acolytes to scare away a band of warriors of the “Navori Brotherhood”, a group of Ionian nationalists, but in the process the warriors rile up a corrupt spirit which attacks the children.
The children try to fight, and in trying to protect a reckless Akali, Faey loses a leg. Kennen, Shen and Mayym arrive to sort the spirit out, and in the aftermath Faey screams her frustration at the young Akali, while Mayym reassures her.
Akali is left alone. without a living father, without her mother’s care, and without Faey’s friendship, she walks in to the forest in tears.
TL;DR: Everyone in the Kinkou needs a god damn hug, Akali included.
Between Light and Shadows
Starring: Kennen
Kennen heads for the Raishii temple, there to see about an urgent plea sent by them. Speeding across the entirety of Ionia to get there, he arrives at the temple, only to find the temple acolytes are beset by a dark presence; their own doubts, manifest as azakana. Kenne banishes them from the Kinkou, and after a light scuffle, the acolytes leave. This wasn’t a decision made of malice though; it had been their unwavering dedication to the Kinkou that had worn them down over the years, allowing the azakana in. Not bound by their duty, they can now truly heal.
TL;DR: Kennen fires people because they’re being nibbled on by baby demons.
Perennial
Starring: An Ahri cameo
A Spirit Blossom occurs at the port-town of Weh’le, and people flock for the chance to attend, as Spirit Blossom festivals are when the souls of the dead blood in said blossoms, allowing the living to commune with the dead, and they’ve been exceedingly rare since the Noxian invasion of Ionia.
The story focuses mostly on a family, going over various legends and stories and their many different interpretations. These stories have parallels in the Spirit Blossom event that followed, with legends about the beings that Spirit Blossom Ahri, Yasuo, Yone, Vayne and Thresh depict. The story ends with a look at some Noxians who’ve gone awol, reflecting on how alone they feel so far from home, among people who hate them for what they did, and deeply fearful for the future now that Noxus is coming back.
This story also has Ahri briefly in it, where she’s looking for a bodyguard. She isn’t named in the story but you’ll know when she pops up.
TL;DR: A piece mostly focused on Ionian culture, history and mythology, framed against the backdrop of a looming reinvasion of Noxus.
A Piece of Shadow Cake
Starring: Xayah, Rakan & a Zed cameo
Following the liberation of the Kepthalla vastaya, Xayah and Rakan are called to help the Vlotah tribe.
Ages ago, the Vlotah had a deal with humans who moved in nearby. The humans erected a Quinlon to make the land more habitable for themselves, and stayed clear of the Vlotah’s lands, respecting their ancient territories. In recent times Zed’s Yanlei took over, using the Quinlon to siphon more magic from the land, to the Vlotah’s detriment.
Xayah is immediately ready to destroy the humans and their settlement, but Rakan’s a bit apprehensive about just casually murdering hundreds of innocent Ionians. After the two meet one of the locals, an old lady who’d very much piss in Zed’s morning cereal, the two set out to break the Quinlon, and the story becomes a retelling of the cinematic “Xayah and Rakan: Wild Magic”.
They succeed, and wild magic saturates the land, destroying the town. Xayah reveals she warned the old lady ahead of time this’d happen, trusting in Rakan’s judgement about them, much to his relief.
TL;DR: This is literally “Xayah and Rakan: Wild Magic” but with WAY more context.
Brotherhood
Starring: Yasuo
On his way to Weh’le to get to the Spirit Blossom festival, Yasuo helps a young boy get his kite back after losing it in the branches of a tree. He succeeds, but the boy’s brother arrives to take him home, commenting that Yasuo’s not someone to hang around with. It hurts more than Yasuo would like to admit, so he bids the boys farewell and sets off quickly.
Kin of the Stained Blade
Starring: Yasuo, Yone, Ahri
Following both “Perennial” and “Brotherhood”, Yasuo awakes from a nightmare- memories of his brother Yone, of their clash, and Yone’s death. He meets an elder and realizes he probably won’t get to commune with his brother before the festival ends, but the elder takes him to a river where he can do it. In the process though, he laces Yasuo’s drink, leaving him vulnerable. The elder is in fact an azakana, and has been hunting Yasuo for some time.
A masked stranger appears, and Yasuo fights him until he realizes it’s Yone, back from the dead. With the azakana’s nature revealed the two team up and Yone seals it.
Yasuo is ready to accept death, but Yone leaves him with forgiveness and well wishes. The two part ways. Yasuo meets Ahri in Weh’le offscreen, and the two head for Bilgewater. Their story will continue in “Ruined King”.
TL;DR: Yasuo wants to talk to his dead bro Yone, who obliges him an they do some demon slaying together. Yone gives him well wishes and then Yasuo heads off with Ahri to Bilgewater.
Poetry with a Blade
Starring: Master Yi
Another story from a champion’s past, this one focuses on Master Yi in his youth. Sent by his master to train with Doran. As it turns out, Yi’s having trouble drawing power from the Spirit Realm to wield with his swordsmanship. His master Hurong hoped some time with Doran could sort that out.
Doran takes Yi to a special place where he gets his swords enchanted. The spirits of the area only open the mists to it one day every year, and they bless the swords left there with magic, however said magic dissipates if the swords draw blood. As practitioners of a non-lethal style of swordsmanship, this makes the blades uniquely usable by practitioners of Wuju, and why Doran comes around as he does.
Along the way, Yi has visions, being talked to by a spiritual version of Doran, which culminates in him witnessing the reason why the mists only part one day a year. The site was where, around 10,000 years ago, the legendary Vastayashai’rei battled titans that came from beyond the sky. It turns out the spirit-Doran is actually a Vastayashai’rei, and helps Yi realize he’s too stringent in his meditation and technique. His rigidity is what prevents him from being able to draw magic from the Spirit Realm. The Vastayashai’rei’s power is where Wuju’s practices ultimately hail from.
After this, Yi is able to do as he needs to, and displays his newfound magical swordsmanship by cutting one of the giant swords left from the conflict. They head off, with Doran planning to craft Yi a new blade, as the ones they brought are all unworthy of the soon-to-be Master Yi.
TL;DR: A young Yi gets told he’s too serious to use magic and needs to lighten up. The one telling him this is a 10,000 year old near mythical hero who battled alien giants.
The Dream Thief
Starring: Lissandra
Deep within the Howling Abyss, Lissandra realizes one of the Frozen Watchers is stirring, and begins walking among dreams to find suitable ones to feed it, that it might be sated and quiet down once again. The Watcher is dreaming of Lissandra; seeing her as she was before she lost her eyes to the Volibear, but also as a goddess trying to force a black sun below the horizon, as the Watcher looms over them both. This is a dream of Runeterra’s extinction.
She crosses many dreams, among them one from one of her faithful, one of a young Iceborn girl, one of an avarosan warrior, one of an ursine shaman, and one of a dying man. As she passes through them she finds none of them able to sate the Watcher, and has to resort to sacrificing a piece of herself to it, sating it but leaving her permanently diminished.
Each of those she walked through the dreams of is changed somewhat, having recurring dreams of Lissandra upon a monstrous Balestrider. The five each independently make their way to the Frostguard citadel, drawn by their dreams to an as of yet undetermined fate.
TL;DR: A look at the eldritch consciousness of the Frozen Watchers, and Lissandra’s attempts to keep them very much asleep.
A Feast Fit for a King
Starring: Trundle
Trundle arrives in the lands of trolls not under his rule, and coerces one such troll: Sligu, to lead him to this “Yettu” he’s been hearing about. On the way they meet Sligu’s brother Sligu, who is dumber than Sligu.
Sligu explains that Yettu proclaimed himself king after hearing Trundle did so, and Trundle realizes Yettu’s so big that Boneshiver might shatter if he tries to hit him. So he resorts to his backup plan; an eating contest. As they eat and brag about their bullshit stories, Trundle fills his cloak with food, and then after a while, cuts it open so the food spills out, making it look like he disembowled himself so he could eat more.
Sligu realizes what happened and goads Yettu, and the idiot proceeds to actually disembowel himself, killing himself in the process. Trundle claims kingship of the northern trolls and takes Sligu back with him as an ally.
TL;DR: Trundle tricks someone in to killing themselves via knife to the gut. Also my favourite story of the year
The Legend of the Frozen Watchers
Starring: Lissandra
This isn’t a traditional story, instead it’s like a biography, sourced from the only written account of the event that led to the Frozen Watchers being sealed in the Howling Abyss.
At the end of the War of the Three Sisters, Avarosa and Serylda lead an alliance of iceborn warriors, the armies of the ancient troll kings, and their ensorcelled Balestriders to Lissandra’s fortress. She decries them, stating they fight because of her bargain, but all they have was a result of that same bargain.
As the fight begins, the Watchers arrive, and are forced to conform to Runeterra’s rules, becoming vulnerable. Lissandra sees them for what they are, and sacrifices the magic and lives of her enemies and allies alike to seal them in a bed of True Ice. Almost all who witnessed the event either died or went mad.
TL;DR: A historical account of how the Watchers in the Howling Abyss got where they are. It is inherently biased in its retelling, as it’s from an account penned by one of Lissandra’s faithful.
Hero of the Frost Moon
Starring: Lissandra
Lissandra enters a chamber of hers, containing ice tombs that each contain a person. Each person is kept alive so their dreams can feed the Watchers and keep them sedate. Considering one of those here is an ancient troll king, some have been trapped like this for 9,000 years. A Shuriman woman comes to save her sister, but Lissandra, using some clever celestial magic, spins an illusion that allows her to trick the woman and seal her away with her sister.
TL;DR: Lissandra is terrifying and a colossal bitch.
A Smoldering Coal
Starring: Tryndamere
Recounted from a warrior’s perspective, an angry warmother confronts Tryndamere about her tribe being attacked and the Avarosans not being there for them. Tryndamere tries to appeal for peace, offering shelter, food and resources, but the woman wants justice and attacks the PoV character. Tryndamere grows enraged and fights the woman, brutalizing her, and later on the PoV character reflects on Tryndamere’s dual nature as a champion of Avarosan ideals and as a terrifying warrior fuelled by rage.
A Death Knot
Starring: Sejuani
Leading a raid in to Demacian lands, Sejuani ties herself a “Death Knot” to rally her troops; a sort of death gambit, showing her readiness to die to the Wolf this day (yes, THAT Wolf). Sejuani uses her flail to freeze the river before them so Bristle can cross, and they’re nearly killed by arrows and drowning as the iceflow breaks, but Bristle finds his footing, they get across and Sejuani’s forces rally with her, ready to pillage.
A Well-Earned Tip
Starring: Gragas
A young lad is helping his uncle at an inn when several tradesmen and later Gragas enter. Gragas orders an expensive ale the uncle hasn’t got the ingredients for, so he mixes something randomly and sends it with the boy. The tradesmen are looking to sell Gragas a fine spice, but it’s a fake. Two tricks is too much, and Gragas attacks the tradesmen, easily beating them. He then reassures the kid, giving him some brewing advice and giving him the jeweled container the tradesmen had as a tip.
A Walk with the Voices
Starring: Udyr
Coming back to the Freljord after his time in Ionia, Udyr arrives at frozen lake among the Winterspike mountains, having been advised to come by his Ionian mentors. Upon arriving he has to contend with a spirit, which mocks him for his what it perceives as weakness in Udyr. Udyr embraces his primal urges and bests the spirit, allowing the frozen lake to thaw and for him to have a needed drink. Feeling better after this test, he’s now more prepared to return to the Winter’s Claw, and see Sejuani.
Seams and Scars
Starring: Riven
Riven is out with her adoptive father Asa, having dinner with an Ionian woman who serves as a mender. After accidentally breaking a bowl, the mender fixes it, as she can interact with the soul of the bowl itself. She asks to see Riven’s sword, and through it sees people searching for Riven. Realizing what this means Riven reassures the woman, but reveals little else.
Sisterhood of War
Starring: Riven
Sisterhood of War is split in to three parts, but for the sake of summary, I’m treating this all as one story.
With the second Noxian Invasion of Ionia kicking off, LeBlanc calls for a gathering of several warriors, all but one unaware of their true mission. They are as follows:
They set out, arriving at the Noxian held, Ionian fortress of Fae’lor following Syndra’s raising of it in the story “The Dreaming Pool”. Tifalenji tells them their job is off the grid and against Noxian orders to find Riven, her sword, and to bring them back to Noxus.
Over the course of many weeks, they contend with Ionia, including monstrous spirits, a river with dozens of faces that tried to kill them, and they even came across Erath’s own father, who’d also gone awol. Later they were attacked by Navori Brotherhood members and their necromancer, but persevered.
They eventually find Riven, who has spent the last 6 years living with her adoptive father and mother: Asa and Shava. Shava has recently died, and as the group arrive, Riven tells Asa to hide. Riven has a heart to heart with her old soldier sisters, but Erath finds Asa, and Marit fights Riven, leading to Marit’s death. Tifalenji then threatens Asa’s life for the rune blade, but Erath kills her in turn, fed up with everything.
Riven agrees to face judgement in Noxus, devastating Asa. Tenner takes her and Marit’s body back on their basilisk Talz. Arrel takes her drakehounds and heads in to Ionia. Erath takes Marit’s lizard Lady Henriette and goes to confront his father again, finding out he died to those Navori, refusing to hand over the team’s location to them and being killed for it. Erath takes his body home to be buried.
TL;DR: How Riven is taken from her farm life back to Noxus as a prisoner.
The Name of the Blade
Starring: Talon and Katarina
This story is on the shorter side, and is framed against another story: “Message on a Blade’s Edge”. Basically the latter story is happening, and this story is Talon’s perspective of it. He’s stalking Katarina, reflecting on how her father, his mentor, General Du Couteau, had sent him to kill her for her failure before. Talon’s aim is to be the perfect assassin, but he failed in killing Katarina, giving her the trademark eye scar she has today.
Since then, he has seen himself as unworthy of trying again, but keeps tabs on Katarina, watching for her mistakes. If she does, he will take her life, with a blade specially chosen for this purpose, which he has named “Katarina”.
TL;DR: Talon brooding and being edgy while watching Katarina be adhd and edgy.
Proclamation of the Trifarix
Starring: Swain and Darius
Similar to “The Legend of the Frozen Watchers”, this is an in-universe account of a historical event, in this case a piece of propaganda from the time of Swain’s coup 7 years ago.
The gist here is that, when Swain did his coup, he secured aid from the noble houses to establish the Trifarix government, with himself, Darius and “The Faceless”, the representative of the assassins guilds, heading it. However as he did so, he did sweeping policy changes that alienated those same nobles, including the ones that’d helped him without coercion. The piece is far more eloquent than that, but ended by an archivist note about the fallout of everything.
TL;DR: Swain propaganda.
Alone
Starring: Vladimir
A young orphan is brought before Vladimir by her matron, who listens to the plight of her life, making sure to keep some of her tears, and while he does listen, he does little to truly comfort her. The matron is worried but in the end, Vladimir doesn’t harm the girl in any way. Later on he takes the tears to a painting of his, reflecting that he remembers little of the person it depicts other than what they looked like, and that they were important to him once upon a time.
One Last Show
Starring: Sona
Sometime after returning to Demacia with her mother Lestara, Sona arrives at an inn and meets up with an old friend, agreeing to do a performance with her before heading out again. She uses the feelings of an elderly person to accentuate her music, but she gets carried away and lets some of her magic be revealed, right in front of some mageseekers. She hurries off, but ends up cornered, having to resort to using her powers to make the mageseekers dance to the point of hurting themselves, even breaking bones, before escaping in to the woods.
Shield of Remembrance
Starring: Quinn
On orders from Tianna Crownguard, Quinn and Valor are heading to meet up with Garen for a mission beyond Demacia’s walls. Because Quinn’s a mega badass she’s doing the insanely long trek on foot.
On the way she stumbles across a busted up house, and a shield from a former knight of Demacia. Evidence suggests bandits have kidnapped the woman and child who lived here, and some magic at play. A fellow ranger, Dalin (The Greenfang Warden from LoR) and his dog Rigby arrive, and the two agree to follow the trail. They pursue them, eventually finding the bandits, and a scuffle ensues before the woman intervenes.
Turns out she’s from Skaggorn, and the bandits are her relatives, getting back back home. She came to Demacia after marrying the knight from before, but with the countrywide lockdown she fears for her child’s safety. Skaggorn was founded by Freljordians, and while the woman has no magic, she fears her child might because of that ancient heritage. The house was likely burned down by other Demacians who saw the magic in the house; old Skaggorn wards, and didn’t understand they were meant to protect the child.
Quinn and Dalin discuss it but quickly come to the conclusion that, in this case, the laws can stuff it and they get the group out of Demacia, helping them cover their tracks. Quinn then sends Dalin to the nearby watchpost to get more security around this area, before heading off to meet up with Garen.
Tl;DR: Quinn is a badass.
Garen - First Shield
Starring: Garen, Quinn, Cithria
This story I WON’T be giving you a tl;dr for. Why? Cuz it’s paid content right now, a rarity for the lore, and I’d rather you all go buy it and read it. I will, however, give you some framing for it:
It’s a fantastic read all around and I highly recommend it, plus it’s super cheap. Check the link below for directions on buying it!

Destiny and Fate
Starring: Graves, Twisted Fate and a Miss Fortune cameo
After some time after the events of Burning Tides, Graves and Twisted Fate return to Bilgewater. They immediately get stuck in to a job; recovering a Shuriman crown that supposedly would allow it’s wearer to command the beasts of the seas. They find their way to a cavern only accessible via going underwater, and find the crown in question. However, they awaken something dark; a sea witch that tries to haul them off as sacrifice to the “Beasts Below”. They manage to evade her and escape.
Upon giving the crown to their benefactor; a Shuriman prince of some kind, they get out of dodge quick enough to be able to see the prince and his ship be devoured by the same sea creature he tried to control. Meanwhile the sea witch gets in touch with Miss Fortune to get Graves and Twisted Fate, which leads to the events of the Tales of Runeterra short cinematic: “Bilgewater - Double Double Cross”.
TL;DR: criminal hijinks
Dead in the Water
Sometime after the events of “Miss Fortune: Fortune Smiles”, MF’s heading to the funeral of the deceased Captain Aligh along with her right hand man Rafen. The deal here is that with Aligh dead, his crew needs distributed among the other powerful crews of Bilgewater, and the funeral is part paying respects, part divying them up. Aboard they meet Captain Blaxton, Captain Thorne, and Captain Petyr Harker, who MF blew up the hand of in the aforementioned comic.
As they land at Moonshard reef, Rafen is missing, and it’s revealed Aligh is actually alive, and the whole thing was a set up by him and Harker to kill their enemies. They use an explosive cannonball to maim most aboard, before MF fights Aligh directly. This all attracts Nautilus though, as Aligh never paid the tithe, and Naut’s not leaving without it.
MF throws Aligh and Harker to Naut, and since she paid the tithe earlier, he leaves her be, though having cut the ship in half she’s quickly sinking. Rafen arrives, having ducked out when he discovered the truth, bringing a lifeboat and saving Blaxton along the way. Thorne also survives.
TL;DR: MF gets in a tight spot but Nautilus saves the day
OTHER STORIES
The Axiomata
Starring: Qiyana
Set from the perspective of one Alaiy, this young Ixtali lad spends time dredging through a river using his knowledge of axioms, recovering artifacts from the old world. To the Ixtali people, they believe the world beyond the jungles doesn’t exist, having been erased by the Void long ago.
Alaiy is escorted by his master, one of the Yun Tal, towards his final trial before he too can become Yun Tal. Those in this caste are part of the ruling class of Ixaocan, but they must first demonstrate their power and aptitude by using a magical artifact called the Vidalion to weave elements in to clothing, which will serve as their Yun Tal uniform.
Alaiy gets underway, but as he does so his mind is spirited across Runeterra, and he sees all kinds of lands, venturing as far as the Freljord. As it turns out the Vidallion lets the Yun Tal see across the world, and this test is not only for one’s aptitude, but also to see how the chosen individual reacts to this knowledge that the world beyond the jungle is still there. Alaiy is shaken in his beliefs, but stays firm, atleast on the outside, and is welcomed in to the Yun Tal.
Later he is met by Qiyana, who appeals to his sense of frustration knowing that, in over 3 millennia, the Yun Tal haven’t seen anything about the outside world that’s made them want to drop the facade and move beyond their borders. He decides to ally with her, with the hopes together they can overturn the systems in place, in time.
Tl;DR: Qiyana finds an ally in the new character of Alaiy
Monstrous
Starring: Kai’Sa
Kai’Sa drags a Shuriman man in to the cavernous depths below the sands. The man is the leader of a nearby settlement, and she wants to show him the Void below so he knows just how unsafe it is here, and that he should get his people as far away as possible.
She hopes to buy the man time after she lets him scurry back home, deliberately fighting the Voidborn coming from the rift before her. They swarm her though, so she resorts to making them hunt her through the tunnels, but eventually they break off from her. They’ve sensed the settlement..
The man didn’t take his people to safety; he rallied them to fight. Kai’Sa confronts him before the Voidborn arrive, and he decries her as a herald of the beasts. Feeling betrayed but also horrified by the possibility he may be right, and she’s unwittingly drawing Voidborn to people through her actions, she resolves that her best recourse is to scare these people in to running. She kills the man and blows up their homes, ensuring she doesn’t hurt anyone else though.
The plan works, the people run for the hills, and Kai’Sa accepts that she’s going to have to be their monster in order to save them as the Voidborn finally make them way to her and she prepares for a fight.
TL;DR: A look at the psychological and emotional toll of Kai’Sa’s everyday life
The Shuttered Manse
Starring: Elise with a LeBlanc cameo
A Shuriman man is sent to Elise’s derelict mansion to kill her under the orders of an unspecified client. Elise has returned home after having managed to capture a Soulgorger from the Shadow Isles, and the power she spent has left her noticeably weaker than normal. Still, she’s not so easily put down and prepares to fight the assassin.
They come to blows, and in the scuffle, the Soulgorger’s prison is damaged and it escapes. The two are forced to fight it together, connecting a little bit as they do so. Despite this and their victory, the assassin takes a lethal blow, his life forfeit.
Later she’s meeting LeBlanc, who’s now prepping sacrifices for Elise to take back to the Shadow Isles so she can feed Vilemaw and be reinvigorated by him. Elise gives her the Soulgorger, and the new prison? The assassin’s own skull, wrapped in her webbing.
TL;DR: Elise is terrifying
The Host
Starring: Singed
Set from the perspective of an unfortunate test subject of Singed’s, who he simply calls “Thinker”, the man is put through horrific testing and bodily experimentation, involving a slew of parasitic teeth being grafted along his abdomen, with the intention of having him merge with another test subject, “Breaker”.
Singed tortures the two for days, but after a time, an explosion elsewhere in Zaun breaks part of their prison, but Thinker’s legs are broken. As the room fills with water Thinker tries to get Breaker out, happy to die for that alone, but Breaker takes him along, and in the process, they two merge as Singed wanted.
They escape, and not only their bodies, but their minds meld together as a single being of incredible might and intellect. However this process isn’t perfect, and events through this part of the story have the two minds conflicted. Singed eventually finds the pair, and tricks them in to a trap, where he effectively gases them to death. Singed initially thinks it’s a failed experiment, but as Thinker manages to spout out more answers to his questions, the mad scientist is overjoyed, as the pair managed to prove more capable than the three prior sets of test subjects Singed had worked with on this endeavour
TL;DR: Singed is a horrific bastard.
Shuriman Trash
Starring: Rumble
Operating from his Nashramae shop, connected to Bandle City via a portal, Rumble sees a Shuriman kid called Anaktu being bullied by Noxian kids headed by one Kesu. The kids also disrespect junk, which is a no-go for Rumble. He spurs Anaktu on, and gets Tristy, the two going to town on them. Kesu thoroughly humbled, has a bit of a whine and cry but does apologize for everything, and he and Anaktu have a bit of reconciliation. Rumble heads home, very much done with dealing with mortals for the day.
Bombs: A Tribute
Starring: Ziggs
Shortly after “Ziggs and Jinx: Paint the Town”, Ziggs starts exploring his new home of Zaun, having now shacked up with Jinx. He comes across an old warehouse, derelict and abandoned, and decides to give it a good send off with explosives. As he sets it up, some rowdy kids get inside the place as the countdown’s going, and Ziggs’s policy of “Don’t kill” means he’s gotta jump in and save them. He does, and everything is well, and there’s a big explosion.
Looking Forward
This year had a bunch of lore, in spite of the difficulties Covid brought. As said above, if anyone does want a run down of the bio updates or skin lore stuff from this year, ask away below.
As for next year, it’s difficult to say what’s gonna come, but we’re not going in to 2021 totally blind:
Anyway, thanks so much for reading! I hope you have a great new year’s!

[ANTI-REVIEW] Busystone - 453S6 PLATED REFLECTIVE WITH MUSSOLA GOMMATA and 70123 CRINKLE REPS NY DOWN ORANGE

Hi there folks
I‘m doing another review about two Busystone items, but with a little twist this time. Hope, you‘ll understand the irony in this post :) All pics are not edited except for blacking out my address or ordernumbers.
At first, here again are my stats:
Chest width: 55cm
Height: 1.84m
Weight: 85kgs
Age: 32
Preferred style: fitted to regular
Into Stone Island since early 2010, own lots of retail
Style: football casual, mostly with Adidas to go with
Located: Switzerland
Music taste: rock music, britpop and some acid house from time to time
there‘s a tl;dr at the bottom if you want to get the real facts in short time.
Order process and shipping
I‘ve placed my order some time in december but had to re-order because of some changes. Thats no big issue, as busy can „move“ the paid money to the correct order.
So I took the second order on 1/27 and the items got the status „processing“ three days later, as one item isn‘t ready yet (but was initially promised to ship before CNY, too) and got splitted from the rest.
Since busy said, they will ship out until the 5th of feb, I was not too worried that my order gets shipped before CNY.
At some point, they even extended it a few days and busy said, they only take five days off where things don‘t get shipped.
When I asked busypiao (his friendly little helper) on telegram about my tracking#, he told me, that I may not get it until feb 18 as they probably got all tracking# of the shipped parcels.
Busy corrected that by saying, my order was already shipped and I have no reason to panic.
I would get the tracking on feb 9 or 10 for sure. click for the conversation
Packaging was a surprise, packed light, weights second to none!
Images of the packaging
And as a bonus, here's a pic of me, when I finally got my order: click shout out to wangarangg1
Lets get to the items!
453S6 PLATED REFLECTIVE WITH MUSSOLA GOMMATA in black
Ordered size Large, as I‘ve tried retail and large was perfect fit for me.
At first, it was promised to get shipped by the end of dec (initially even before that) and was pushed a few times back to „surely before CNY“
There were some issues on the telegram group about the yellow one (bad stitching, missing badge, even a conspiracy about a guy who only wanted a discount code and red pen marks on it) but since we did not get loads of pics of the black one, its another surprise once it arrives.
I‘m still in the team „we need more pics, compared to retail and detail shots“ for new releases, so we could see any possible flaws before that stuff gets shipped. Like the flaw on the label where the text is too big/wide, busy „forgot“ to mention until someone on telegram saw it.
As you can‘t see on my pics, the jacket looks like nothing ever done by busy before! If you touch it, it feels like you touch air. That gets even more visible, if you wear it. Feels like nothing at all! Lightweight, almost invisible, perfect fit. And I can‘t see any flaws on it, which is perfect. Great work busy! Would cop again, if I misplace it one fine day.
Visibility: 1/10
Material: 1/10
Weight: 10/10
Here‘s the badge next to my retail (which has been in charge for three years on a tankshield jacket)
next up:
70123 CRINKLE REPS NY DOWN ORANGE
Also went after the size chart and ordered size large. My retail micro reps has the same measurements, so it was a no brainer. Chose the orange one, as it was on sale (190$) and I like Kenny on South Park.
The jacket does not feel heavy at all, again, its like wearing nothing! The zippers glide as they are not even there and it feels if I get hugged with air.
Its not warm, I will get wet if I wear it and it feels as if its barely there! I would recommend it to wear it over a vitaly-monokini to visit the super bowl!
Here are some fit pics, too, in case you‘re wondering what I‘m talking about, the invisible jacket.
Again, here‘s my conclusion:
Visibility: 1/10
Material: 1/10
Weight: 1/10
Here‘s the badge next to a retail one (used for a while on a softshell)
As you probably realised by now: I did not get my order yet. Besides (empty) promises about it being shipped several times and that I will get the tracking „asap“ and „soon, today or tomorrow“. And besides paying 48$ for express shipping via UPS.
Would I buy again? Probably, but only, if they get their shit together in terms of handling orders and the whole process. Or at least stop lying about the process and finally be honest about all the stuff.
I will write another review, if my stuff arrives one fine day, but I think, the day my down jacket will arrive, it will be already summer outside and I can‘t wear it for another few months.
tl;dr: I got nothing so far. Only lies and empty promises, mixed with some trolling. Ordered on 1/27, „shipped“ on 1/30, still waiting for a tracking# or even a delivery. 🤷🏻‍♂️ (but check the pics, they're worth it!)
Thanks for reading this! See ya soon*
*maybe today, maybe tomorrow, maybe in a few weeks or months, maybe the day his dust plated reflective will release 😂

The Top 20 Largest Rivalries of the Last 10 Years According to Data

Using knowrivalry.com and footballdb.com I have calculated the top 20 rivalries in the NFL of the past 10 years (beginning January 3rd, 2011). To calculate the size of a rivalry I whipped up an equation: a+g+(p*20)+(a/(d/2)) = total score
Key:
a = aggregate score on knowrivalry (eg Lions assigned 44.12 rivalry points to the Packers, and the Packers assigned 12.81 rivalry points to the Lions, therefore the aggregate score is 56.92)
d = difference between the two scores on knowrivalry (eg Lions assigned 44.12 rivalry points to the Packers, and the Packers assigned 12.81 rivalry points to the Lions, therefore the difference is 31.31)
g = regular season matchups since Week 1 of the 2011 season
p = postseason matchups since Round 1 of the 2010-2011 postseason
There was an instance where the difference divided by 2 equaled less than 1 (Seahawks and Rams), so I manually overrode that and turned it into a 1, for the Seahawks and Rams are obviously not the biggest rivals in pro football.
Before we start the list I want to mention 10 rivalries that I personally wish were more severe, and if you feel the same way go to knowrivalry.com and take the survey.
Chiefs vs Patriots with a score of 48
AFC Championship which went into overtime
1-20-2019
Rams vs Patriots with a score of 48.5
Super Bowl LIII when everyone but the Pats lost
2-3-2019
Giants vs Patriots with a score of 38.87
Super Bowl XLVI when the Giants won... again
2-5-2012
Giants vs Jets with a score of 20.51
Overtime thriller with plenty of Fitzmagic
12-6-2015
Colts vs Chiefs with a score of 55.08
2nd largest comeback in NFL history
1-4-2014
Packers vs Cowboys with a score of 58.22
Packers heartbreakingly eliminate the Cowboys in the postseason... twice in 3 seasons
1-11-2015, 1-15-2017
Packers vs Seahawks with a score of 86.29
NFC Championship which had an onside kick
1-18-2015
Packers vs 49ers with a score of 87.28
49ers eliminate the Packers in back to back postseason... and again in 2020
1-12-2013, 1-5-2014
Saints vs Seahawks with a score of 52.71
Saints go on the road to Seattle to lose in heartbreaking fashion... twice... in the playoffs
1-08-2011, 1-11-2014
Saints vs Vikings with a score of 58.31
Minneapolis Miracle and then another big upset two post seasons later
1-14-2018, 1-5-2020
So now for the real list. If you have any disagreements talk about it in the comments, but also go to knowrivalry.com and take the survey so you can really change the data we have on rivalries.

XX. Raiders vs Chargers with a score of 91.90
An excellent geographical rivalry between the Bay Area and San Diego is now a shell of what it once was. I’m expecting this to fizzle out because neither team has been in AFC Title contention in the 2010s, and now both teams are in new and unfamiliar locations. It is also very one-sided.
Matchup in L.A. where the Raiders hosted their first true home game since 1994
12-31-2017
Chargers lose after a last second touchdown call was reversed
11-8-2020
XIX. Giants vs Eagles with a score of 92.72
This is definitely the most overrated rivalry in the NFL. Neither team has been good at the same time in the past 10 years, so the bitterness only remains from great games from a long time ago. It is also pretty one-sided, both in terms of wins and losses and their scores on knowrivalry.
Jake Elliot kicks the longest field goal in Eagles history to win the game
9-24-2017
Eagles win in overtime to keep their playoff hopes alive
12-9-2019
XVIII. Panthers vs Saints with a score of 98.69
Pretty good rivalry within the most volatile division in football. The Panthers and Saints have fought for NFCS Championships which makes this rivalry a really good one in recent years. It is one sided on knowrivalry, but pretty close in terms of wins and losses in the series.
Panthers drive down the field in the end of the 4th quarter to remain undefeated
12-6-2015
Wildcard matchup where Cam Newton injures his head-- or maybe his eye?
1-7-2018
XVII. Cowboys vs Football Team with a score of 101.12
A classic rivalry with a similar name to the popular kids game “Cowboys and Sports Team.” Neither team has been relevant since the early 90s, so this rivalry is kept on life support by annual Thanksgiving day matchups. It is a one-sided affair, but in 2020 the Football Team swept the Cowboys for the first time since 2012, so this might change.
De facto NFCE Championship game where the Football Team won
12-30-2012
Cowboys nearly choke on Thanksgiving, but win to advance to a 10-1 record
11-24-2016
XVI. Titans vs Jaguars with a score of 104.79
An extremely lopsided rivalry, but the Jaguars hate the Titans so much this rivalry ranks 16th in the past 10 years. Both teams have been awful, and they’ve been awful at the same time. The only notable games I could find were tank bowls (which are fun in their own right). While the Titans are good now, the Jaguars were literally the worst team in 2020. Hopefully Lawrence and Meyer can breathe new life into this potentially great rivalry.
Tank bowl in week 16 where the Titans lost and secured the 2nd overall pick
12-18-2014
Tank bowl in week 13 where the Titans won but secured the 1st overall pick
12-6-2015
XV. Broncos vs Patriots with a score of 106.20
Probably the greatest quarterback rivalry in NFL history. Two AFC Championships will certainly cause a rivalry between two teams, and especially if their quarterbacks are the two greatest quarterbacks of all-time. It’s also decently mutual with Pats fans expressing disdain toward the Broncos on knowrivalry. I don’t think this rivalry will live on for long.
Patriots have a huge comeback in the second half to eventually win in overtime
11-24-2013
AFC Championship where the best statistical offense of all-time wins (Broncos)
1=19=2014
AFC Championship where a failed 2 point conversion hands the Broncos the W
1-24-2016
XIV. Browns vs Steelers with a score of 108.07
This is a wildly lopsided rivalry, but I’m hoping that could change in the upcoming years. The Steelers were 35-7-1 against the expansion team until the 2020 season where the Browns may have turned a new leaf. This has potential to be a big rivalry in this decade.
Steelers rest most of their starters in week 17 but still beat the winless Browns
12-31-2017
Despite winning the game Browns DE Myles Garrett bashes Steelers QB Mason Rudolph over the head with his own helmet. Fights ensue and a coach gets fired
11-14-2019
The “Browns is the Browns” game in the wildcard round. This is technically the Browns’ first playoff win. Did you know the Steelers started the season 11-0?
1-10-2021
XIII. Ravens vs Patriots with a score of 108.76
This is the 2nd biggest non-divisional rivalry in the NFL, and that’s because of postseason matchups. The rivalry almost ended until Lamar Jackson came into the fold to challenge Brady for AFC dominance. Now that Brady’s gone this rivalry will probably die. P.S. I want everyone on this subreddit to go on knowrivalry and make the Ravens and Chiefs the new big thing.
AFC Championship where the Ravens lost on a missed field goal. In the following offseason they got Justin Tucker who would help them next year
1-22-2012
AFC Championship where the Ravens didn’t really need Justin Tucker to win
1-20-2013
Ravens meet the Patriots in the postseason for the 3rd time in 4 seasons. Joe Flacco loses the game for the Ravens and the Patriots win the Super Bowl
1-10-2015
XII. Rams vs Seahawks with a score of 115.64
This rivalry was arguably enhanced when the Rams moved to the same time zone as the Seahawks, and it’s been very requited ever since. For whatever reason Jeff Fisher was Pete Carrol’s kryptonite, but even now the Rams still beat the Seahawks more often than not. This will be a great rivalry for the rest of the decade as both teams battle for NFCW ownership.
Season opener where the Seahawks lost in overtime because they handed the ball off to Marshawn Lynch instead of passing it to Tyler Lockette
9-13-2015
Close game where Greg Zuerlein missed a 44 yard field goal and the Rams lost
10-4-2019
Wildcard round where the Seahawks only had 11 players on the field. They lost
1-9-2021
XI. Bengals vs Steelers with a score of 116.85
I was hoping this rivalry would make the list, and I’m really glad it is ranked this high. It is an insanely one-sided affair, but just because the fans don’t hate each other doesn’t mean the players don’t. Let’s see what happens when the two least well-behaved and least disciplined squads face each other twice a year and once in the playoffs.
Wildcard round where the Bengals ended the longest playoff win drought in NFL history, but Vontaze Burfict and Adam Jones had a different plan. Despite the fact that the Bengals won the game, they managed to ultimately lose the game
1-9-2016
Primetime game where Ryan Shazier broke his back, William Jackson decided to not tackle Le'Veon Bell, and JuJu Smith-Schuster body slammed Vontaze Burfict. The Bengals were penalized 13 times and blew a 17 point lead
10-22-2017
Steelers miraculously win on a last minute touchdown pass to Antonio Brown
10-14-2018
X. Colts vs Texans with a score of 118.93
Yet another ridiculously one-sided rivalry. The Colts dominated the AFCS until Deshaun Watson came along and helped the Texans compete with the Colts. This rivalry is going to become even more lopsided as the Texans venture into the great unknown.
Texans defeat the Colts to snap their lengthy streak of division wins
1-9-2016
Overtime thriller where the Colts played for a win instead of a tie, but lost
9-30-2018
Wildcard round where the Colts thoroughly beat the Texans on the road
1-5-2019
IX. Broncos vs Raiders with a score of 120.07
This is a transparently a goes-both-ways rivalry both in terms of wins and losses and their scores on knowrivalry. This is the battle for Utah as both teams now border the state, so this is a great geographical rivalry too. We will probably never see them face off in the playoffs though.
Broncos defeat the Raiders to knock them down from the 2 seed to the 5 seed
1-9-2016
Michael Crabtree and Aqib Talib have one of the biggest fights in NFL history
11-26-2017
A 2nd quarter blocked PAT ultimately helped the Broncos win this game 20-19
9-18-2018
VIII. Packers vs Vikings with a score of 126.17
The 3rd most unbalanced rivalry in the NFL according to knowrivalry. Both teams have been duking it out for NFCN dominance in the past 10 years. I would’ve expected this rivalry to be a lot bigger because the states border each other, but Packers fans do not take the Vikings seriously at all. Fun fact: they ended matchups in ties twice in the 2010s
Wildcard game where the Packers beat the Vikings right after losing to them
1-6-2013
De facto NFCN Championship game where Rodgers’s hail mary actually failed
1-3-2016
Critical week 16 game that gave the Packers the NFCN division title
12-23-2019
VII. Colts vs Patriots with a score of 126.66
The highest ranked non-divisional rivalry is also the most unbalanced according to knowrivalry. The last Colts quarterback to beat the Patriots was Peyton Manning back in 2009. Perhaps Patriots fans hated the Colts in the 2000s but the animosity is not there anymore. The Colts still hate the Patriots though. In fact, they assigned more rivalry points to them than any team in their own division, so I personally agree that this rivalry should be in the top 10.
Divisional round game where the Colts almost managed to come back until imploding in the 4th quarter
1-11-2014
AFC Championship where the Colts lost by 38 points, but there was something strange happening on the Patriots’ side...
1-18-2015
“What... the... heck?” “What in the world? Flag is down. You tell me.”
10-18-2015
VI. Cowboys vs Eagles with a score of 129.67
This is a pretty groan-worthy rivalry if you ask me. Dallas has not been a serious contender in 25 years, but when they reach the playoffs they never face the Eagles (in the past 10 years). The Eagles tend to lose to the Cowboys in recent memory even though they’ve had better postseason success. Maybe someday in the distant future these teams will be relevant again.
De facto NFCE Championship where Dallas lost on a failed 2 point conversion
12-29-2013
High scoring game ended in an overtime loss for the Eagles. EDP445’s video title: Another epic eagles collapse! Sorry ass pieces of shit
10-30-2016
Yet another game ended in an overtime loss for the Eagles which gave the Cowboys the NFCE title. EDP445’s video title: Nearly fired over the eagles
12-9-2018
V. Jets vs Patriots with a score of 160.75
Fun fact: the first trade these two organizations made since the Patriots acquired Bill Belichick? It was in 2019. These teams hate each other and surprisingly the fans hate each other too. Pats fans hate the Jets more than any other team, and vice versa. It is a hilariously one-sided affair on the field though. Let’s look at some notable games of the past 10 years.
Jets pull off a massive upset in Foxboro to advance to the AFC Championship
1-16-2011
The Butt Fumble. “It is the perfect representation of failure, buffoonery, submission, and outstanding comedic timing.” - UrinatingTree

Patriots come back in the 4th quarter to reassure their spot as AFCE leaders
10-25-2015
Austin Seferian-Jenkins scores a crucial 4th quarter touchdown which gets controversially overturned; the ball was given to the Patriots at their 20 yard line because of a mind-bendingly awful touchback rule
10-15-2017
IV. Seahawks vs 49ers with a score of 163.75
This is one of the closest contested rivalries of the past 10 years. Both teams have won numerous NFC Championships recently, and both fanbases hate each other equally. We can expect this rivalry to live on for several more years as they are geographically fighting for Oregon, and they will both be in contention for the NFC West (as long as Russell Wilson plays).
Frank Gore tears into the Seahawks defense to win the game in the final minute
12-8-2013
NFC Championship where the 49ers tried the best corner in the game with a sorry receiver like Crabtree. They should have never talked about him
1-19-2014
Overtime thriller where the 49ers tried to harm the Seahawks’ playoff chances. They won but the Seahawks still reached the postseason
12-16-2018
De facto NFCW Championship game where the Seahawks forgot to snap the ball at the 1 yard line, so the 49ers won and were given the 1 seed
12-29-2019
III. Bears vs Packers with a score of 176.56
This is obviously a great historic rivalry. The Packers just recently took the lead in the series, and it is looking like they are going to run with it. The rivalry is very unbalanced according to knowrivalry, but the Packers do hate the Bears more than any other team. This rivalry is so important that the NFL interrupted the tradition of scheduling the season opener for the defending Super Bowl champs so that the Packers and Bears could play for the 100th season.
NFC Championship where the Bears were underdogs at home, and they lost
1-23-2011
De facto NFCN Championship game where the Packers miraculously won
12-29-2013
Yet another Soldier Field game where Rodgers broke hearts. “Rodgers has time. Now some pressure, throws it deep, Jordy Nelson... he’s got it!”
12-18-2016
Sunday Night season opener where Aaron Rodgers comes back from 20 points late in the 3rd quarter, and he did it on one leg. Or this can be known as the biggest choke the Bears ever had. Fun fact: they passed the ball on 3rd & 1
9-9-2018
II. Saints vs Falcons with a score of 187.96
Of course this rivalry is on this list. It is incredible how much these teams and fanbases hate each other, and how many times they’ve played must-win games. Surprisingly they haven’t met each other in the playoffs in a long time even though they’ve both been good recently. This rivalry will still be a doozie for years to come as both teams will be similarly awful for a while.
Overtime thriller where the Falcons ran a terrible play on 4th and inches and lost
11-13-2011
Important Thursday night game where Sean Payton taunted the Falcons then later ran onto the field to immediately get penalized and lose the game
12-29-2013
Overtime thriller where Drew Brees ran for two touchdowns to win the game
9-23-2018
Coming into this game the Falcons were 14 point underdogs. They proceeded to win 26-9 and the Saints eventually had to settle for the 3 seed in the playoffs
11-10-2019
I. Steelers vs Ravens with a score of 275.39
That score is not a typo. This is far and away the most contested, evenly matched and primetime slot stealing rivalry in the NFL. This has the second highest aggregate score on knowrivalry right after the Saints vs Falcons, but the playoff appearances and small difference inflate this rivalry’s score. If you think about it, who could argue with this being the top of the list? In the past 10 years the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens have the best rivalry in the NFL.
Divisional round game where the Ravens blew a 14 point lead at halftime
1-15-2011
Important Sunday night matchup where the Ravens stun the Steelers in Pittsburgh with a last minute touchdown pass to Torrey Smith
11-6-2011
Thanksgiving night meeting where the Steelers lost on a failed 2 point attempt
11-28-2013
Christmas night matchup where the ‘Immaculate Extension’ happened. The Steelers had no timeouts and there were 9 seconds on the clock, so if Antonio Brown’s touchdown was overturned they would’ve lost the game à la the Detroit Lions against the Falcons. The Steelers won the division because they won
12-25-2016
Big Ben has a big Sunday night game (seriously these teams always play at night because the NFL knows what’s up) as the Ravens choke a 2 score lead in the 4th quarter. This was one of four times Roethlisberger threw for over 500 yards; he holds the record for most 500 yard games.
12-10-2017
I would also like to mention 5 rivalries the NFL believes are some of the best of all-time, but ultimately failed to make the list. Perhaps they were once good rivalries, but now they are dead. The Raiders and Steelers are not that big of a deal anymore. The Cowboys and Steelers seldom play each other so that’s not that big of a deal. The Cowboys and 49ers don’t play each other in the playoffs anymore because the Cowboys don’t reach the playoffs. The Patriots and Steelers is extremely lopsided and neither team will be in Super Bowl contention for years to come. And lastly the Giants and 49ers which has been dead because the Giants never face them in the playoffs anymore.
Seriously go on knowrivalry.com and take the survey
TL;DR Giants and Eagles is overrated, and Steelers and Ravens is underrated

30 Years Ago Today: The NY Giants defeat the Buffalo Bills, 20-19 in Super Bowl XXV

It was three decades ago today (!!!), January 27, 1991 that the New York Giants beat the Buffalo Bills 20-19 in Super Bowl XXV in Tampa.
This game is probably best known for Scott Norwood's last-second 46-yard miss that would have given the Bills the title. It is also known for Whitney Houston's stirring (lip-synch?) performance of the national anthem, as the USA was gearing up for War in Iraq (the first one).
Some other tidbits:
The game is known for Bill Belichick's "bend don't break" defense that slowed down the Bills high-flying pass attack. But maybe even more credit is due to the Giants offense. The Giants ran the ball for 172 yards and more importantly, kept it for a whopping 40 minutes. You can't score if you don't have the ball. This was classic Parcells ball-control football played to a "T". The Giants actually out-gained the Bills, 386 to 371 yards. Jeff Hostetler, who stepped in for Phil Simms late in the season when Simms went down with an injury, was a very efficient 20-32 for 222 yards, 1 TD and zero picks.
While next week's Super Bowl will also be in Tampa, and on the same location, it will not be played in the same stadium. SB XXV was played in the old Tampa Stadium, the "Big Sombrero" as Berman called it, which was torn down in favor of RJ Stadium in 1998.
I was living in Tampa at the time and remember the excitement in town for the game. Unlike this year, the 1990 Bucs were a bad 6-10 team, but everyone was excited about the Super Bowl coming anyway. The game was also highly-lauded, as it was an exciting, back and forth affair at a time when most Super Bowls were blowouts.
So far, this is the only SB that has been played on January 27.

How likely is every NFL stadium to host WrestleMania? An investigation

With the announcements of WrestleManias 37, 38, and 39, some users were critical of WWE selecting the same venues every year. Every WrestleMania since 23, with the exception of three in Orlando (two at the Citrus Bowl/Camping World Stadium and one at the Performance Center due to COVID-19), has been held at an NFL stadium. As something of an NFL stadium expert, I decided to examine each NFL stadium's likelihood of hosting a future WrestleMania. Please note that some stadiums are located just outside of the city limits listed, but I listed the major city most associated with it (so for instance, while AT&T Stadium is technically in Arlington, it hosts the Dallas Cowboys, so I listed Arlington.) I'm also giving WWE a significant benefit of the doubt and assuming they'd be interested in hosting a Mania outside of their usual go-tos.
