Superbowl Conspiracies MegaThread

In honor of the big game, we are going to run through some of our favorite conspiracies surrounding the Superbowl:
  1. Games are fixed either by the NFL, the refs, or by the teams themselves (there are a ton of these)
--The tuck rule that gave the Patriots the title post 9/11 in 2001.
--The Blackout during Superbowl XLVII. In 2013, in order to prevent a blowout, the NFL had the stadium lose power in order for the 49ers to come back on the Ravens.
--The NFL screwing over the New Orleans Saints due to bountygate.
--In Superbowl LX, the refs were screaming about being underpaid so they called one of the worst games in superbowl history in order to force the league to pay them more.
a. Phantom flags. Phantom touchdowns.
b. After the game, the supervisor of NFL officiating caught a flight to South America
c. Later, one official said “"It was a tough thing for me," he said. "I kicked two calls in the fourth quarter, and I impacted the game, and as an official, you never want to do that."
  1. Sex Trafficking
--The theory began in the late 1980s although in a slightly different form--that domestic violence rates skyrocketed on game day and that Superbowl Sunday was the single biggest day for domestic violence each year. This led to a national movement and Congressional Act (championed by now President Biden) despite any evidence of this being true.
--In fact, the claim was debunked almost immediately in 1993 (three days after it first appeared in a major publication) but the claim still exists today.
--Eventually, the theory shifted to forced prostitution, sex trafficking, and even child prostitution.
--There seems to be an attempt to confuse traditional sexwork (which should be legalized) with illegal, harmful trafficking. The theory is that this confusion was intentionally spread by law enforcement to justify a near military state around the big game.
--Already Tampa Bay police are using this myth to justify low-level police stings to arrest people on misdemeanor prostitution charges.
--Important to note, that Robert Kraft (one of the wealthiest men in American and the owner of the New England Patriots) got two hand jobs during the Patriots 2019 playoff run. The massage parlor is a source of a number of crazy conspiracies mostly because a man worth $6 Billion tried to save $15 on a $59 massage by getting the early bird special.

  1. Half time shows
--Lady Gaga’s performance in 2017 was actually a carefully orchestrated Satanic Ritual. Gaga was scheduled to fly in from above with an army of drones signaling the rise of robots and the enslavement of humanity.
--Janet Jackson’s boob out was not a wardrobe malfunction. What is more important was the tribal sun pasty that covered up her nipple. The sun symbol appears on a lot of celebrities--Nick LeShea, Cisco, Adam Levine. This all relates back to the theory that Viacom--owners of CBS among other things--has deep ties to the Illuminati and their high priestess Beyonce. The goal is to take over mass rituals such as the halftime show or the VMA and usher in Illuminati symbolism.
--Good analysis on Bruno Mars’ halftime show in the context of the Illuminati is here

  1. Betting
--In 2015, someone bet a HUGE amount of money on a prop bet that the national anthem would take longer than 2 minutes and 2 seconds. The bet was placed shortly before the anthem. The anthem lasted 2 minutes and four seconds.
--Jim McMahon claimed that Coach Mike Ditka ran up a huge bet that William the Fridge Perry would score a touchdown during Superbowl XX. He did score the touchdown.
--Superbowl XLVII was rigged when the Seahawks blew out the Broncos. This was seen by the safety on the first play which has some of the best odds in prop betting.

We are going live a little earlier today (a little after Noon) so we don't interrupt anyone super spreader parties. Let us know if there is more we should cover.

Rita Linn

Mai: God, hot pot sounds so good rn in this weather… I love that you went with a fun, campy approach to this week’s theme, especially since I didn’t expect that from you. You wearing a bathing suit bathing in the boiling broth is such a cute concept! I don’t necessarily understand the need for the astronaut helmet? It kinda throws the proportion off, making you look too top-heavy. The trinkets you added on the bathing suit and the crocs are super cute, and they add some nice additional colors, but I wish they went along with the hot pot concept? Like maybe if they were common ingredients/spices you normally find in hot pots?
Eva: This is a really funny idea and I’m glad you showed off your sense of humor from week one. There were some great details-- my favorite of which was the red boiled skin inside the broth pots. However, I don’t think the look is very harmonious. The Crocs and other plastic elements don’t seem to go very well with the glass elements. And from a design standpoint it is hard to imagine how this could be executed
EPI: This is a hilarious concept! I’m happy you chose to interpret the theme this way. I am wondering if the large helmets are going to be a recurring thing for you , as you had one for your promo look? I don’t mind it for this look, but if I were you I would be careful moving forward so as to not repeat yourself every time! I have to admit though as much as I like this concept, I am a bit confused as to how the swimsuit and the platform crocs fit into this, I don’t really understand how they go with the spaghetti realness you have going on there. I think if the bowl and helmet had been rendered in a more graphic way, almost as if they were a cardboard cutout, or a print on a big piece of felt fabric or something, it would’ve been more cohesive with the pattern on the rest of the clothes and the whole look would’ve felt more cohesive! Because right now the juxtaposition between the realistic food and then the very graphic and almost cartoony clothes is a bit confusing. Great job on the rendering this week !
Gretel: yum. Hello Sweaty , I love that you did food 🥘 I was looking forward to some hot and sexy meals this week.at a glance I know exactly what this is without question and I’m hungrier for it. The overall design is very cool , the glass filled with soup and the fiery colors / the boils and garment details are great. I would have really enjoyed if you found a way to maintain the camp and whimsy of the glass/ pot filled with soup without making it literally two glass pots attached to her body filled with liquid . For me this is successful as an illustration but not so much as a drag/fashion design for a runway challenge . Including details that illustrate how a concept could be executed irl while still being a show piece is a huge plus for concepts like this. An example being - making it look like a skirt and collaheadpiece/bodice that is plastic or resin with the soup painted or poured on it and the ingredients sprinkled throughout instead of the literal pot and flames at her feet . Good job this week , some fine tuning was needed but your rendering was scrumptious. 5 star rating on Yelp
Maka: WHY ARE YOU BUYING CLOTHES AT THE SOUP STORE? I can tell you had a lot of fun with this concept this week, it’s goofy and fun and I got a good chuckle from it. I think the idea of swimming in soup was fun but could’ve been pushed a little further; maybe you could’ve given Rita a swim cap and a nose clip or some goggles. I also would’ve liked a little more connection between the soup and the swimsuit itself, I think maybe having a red/orange glow on the silver or making the little trinkets the ingredients of the hot pot. I also think having the pot skirt and the head bubble and the heating element are too much together. I would’ve made the skirt the heating element instead of having it on the floor as a prop, and moved the pot to the head instead of having the pot skirt and the bubble on the heat. It was a fun concept but the execution was a little undercooked.

Daphne DuBois

Mai: This hair!!! My favorite thing about it, besides the shape, is how you have that strand of orange working around it and into the makeup. It’s a nice touch to tie them together. The waist up of this look is actually quite wonderful. I love this burst of lava and how it’s framing her. I wish your bottom half matched up a bit more. The volume is great and well-balanced with the top, but the actual mountain part could benefit a lot with some kind of texture and a darker value to help distinguishing it from the smooth, shiny lava
Eva: Hi Daphne. I really like the larger-than-life silhouette you did here. It was cool that you picked something more expected for this category; however, I didn’t see you put a unique spin on it. It felt like a very literal approach and not super inspired. I really hate to say it because it’s not a bad look per se, it is just such a base-level interpretation that I am left wanting more. The lava running down the skirt is rendered nicely, but how could you have used that pattern in a more creative way? How could you have been more purposeful with the dripping lava texture on the skirt fringe and on the bodice? What could you have done to make the back piece look more interesting? ...I will add, you did a great job on the rendering, and I love the smoke wig, but other than that, I wish I could have seen you be more thoughtful in your design choices.
Gretel: oh this some hot girl sh*t. Hello Gal, this is a lovely rendering job. I respect your choice to be in the nose but I think if you’re going to go for a very traditional/obvious interpretation- there needs to be something very unique or interesting about the garment or silhouette. This is the perfect opportunity to play with avant-garde while still screaming camp volcano woman. I would suggest you take a look at every garment and make sure there is some twist on it that is specifically yours, unexpected, and fresh . The details are all very lovely but it ended up being a little paint by numbers with the smoke wig , skirt , lava cracks , color scheme. Just a sidenote, this was not a bad look but it could have used some spice , some oo ahh ahh to push it above the rest. I’ve been to a few volcanoes irl and they are huge , scary, dangerous,Cool- you could have brought some of that power and sexy danger to this look to elevate it beyoonnnddd.
Maka: Well one of us is going to have to change. I’m going to start by saying I love the styling of this look, this big billowy gray wig is gorgeous, and I love this strand of glowing yellow that carries onto your face and then onto your body to outline the bodice, it really helps tie everything together. The rest of the look doesn’t quite carry that same level of polish and excitement though. The angle that the skirt is at feels a little odd, I would’ve liked it either more dramatically tilted up like Gaga’s Grammy look or just flat across, and because the backpeice curls in at the top it feels a bit more like wings than an explosion as I’m assuming you intended it to be. Also I think having the skirt be a black or darker brown would accentuate the glow of the lava a little more. Little details make a huge difference so always take time to go back and refine your look, and don’t be scared to ask a friend or mentor for help as a fresh pair of eyes can really help. We lava you ;)
EPI: Oh Ilove these colors! The grey hair with this red color scheme is so cool and fancy looking! I will say this is a bit of a literal interpretation, but I think the rendering and the different design elements, like the nude illusion in the front, and the transparent fabric to represent lava, really helps sell this. The only thing I can’t forgive about this look are the shoes! I wish you would’ve let the gown go to the floor , or had gone a more realistic/subtle route for the shoes , as the dress itself is already pretty ‘’out-there’’ in terms of silhouette and color.

Lucy Furr

Mai: Ahh I love the story you’re telling through this look. It’s a very delicate side of Lucy we haven’t seen yet. I really like this combination of the soft pink and the brassy tones. The idea of not just creating a look based on heat but also showing its effect is so so cool. The actual concept of doing a candle look isn’t the most out of the box one, but you executed it really well here. I kinda wish the detailing on the corset and the skirt were a bit more defined, especially since you have these very detailed and delicate filigree along her legs and her shoes. It would’ve been nice to see a bit of that carried up
Eva: Yes, another pointe queen!!! I think the pink/brass combination was a risky one but you definitely pulled it off. I loved how you interpreted a candlestick as a ballet tutu, it looks lovely! I like the melting effect and the curlique details. One thing I don’t like at all are the ribbons on the shins, I feel like they are out of place compared to the delicate and graceful elements. I would have kept the ribbons on the pointe shoes where they belong or omitted them entirely. I also really loved the rainbowy pearlescent accent in the flame, I would have loved to see pearl accents like that present in the rest of the look. Perhaps instead of those little orange bits.
Gretel: this is Lit. I do think there is something unexpected about making this a candleXballet dancer collaboration. It has elements of beauty and delicate femininity (the ballet and gold details)and the grotesque (the melting candle/sfx makeup) that are oddly fitting for a flame.the actual garment and silhouette could have used some dragging up for drama and impact but the details and concept are what sell it to me. If I were To see this look irl , I would be very gagged. Very that. Great work this week , keep on twirling
Maka: She’s melting MELTING Oh what a world… I always like when people blend soft and traditionally feminine themes with horror, and this look is very much that. It’s very Lumiere but as a prima ballerina but also make it body horror. Oddly enough one of my favorite little details is these little ribbons under your sleves, because they mimic the dripping wax. Proportionally I think you could’ve made the look a little more dramatic, I would’ve liked the sleeves to be a tad bigger and I would’ve put a thicker layer of tulle underskirt beneath the gold; I think some sort of exaggeration would’ve made your look stand out a lot more. It’s a very haunting take on the theme and I could definitely see this on Dragula or in a gothic horror film. Brava!
EPI: This rendering is everything! I like the pose and the facial expression you gave your queen, it does help sell this concept a lot more. This is a very sweet and delicate look , which is an interesting way to interpret the theme of heat, in my opinion. I like the color scheme and your gold metal compliments the rest of the garment very well! I have a soft spot for looks where the fabric gets lost into the skin as both are a similar color, so this is really enjoyable to me. This does a great job of making our imagination work, and I would love to see this look made for real. Good job !

Emily 8y3

Eva: I love this astrological look!! You did a beautiful job, it has a kind of mystical quality. I think you especially did a great job on the texturing, both with the coiled blue parts and the soft gold parts. I guess I would have maybe liked the sun piece to be a little bigger and brighter and hotter. But that is all I can think of that I would change about it, good work!
Gretel: you’re out of this world , henny. I really enjoy this concept and the more concise description because it allowed my mind to wander about all the details- I was curious as to what everything was and the detail of every fold and texture, the headpiece - it’s all very cool. Also unexpected colors and details for a “sun” look which is usually red yellow orange and flames. I like the twist you took with your guardian. I have one note 📝, I think that if you made the face a real focal point .Maybe with a pop of color to illuminate or carve out the eye or lips , highlight in the center of the face or bright blushing can also make a face and it’s feature pop instead of recede ( Obviously this depends on what look you’re going for each week) great work this week , I look forward to seeing more of your creamy rendering and interesting designs
Maka: This look is taking me on a journey through the comsos and I’m loving every second of it. I especially love the details and texturing on the bodysuit underneath (it gives me very H.R. Geiger vibes) and I love how you included the planets like little accent gems, especially the little Pluto skewered on your heel. I know you described yourself as a young Star guardian but this look makes you look like an elder god of the cosmos; the head jewelery, the colors, and the draping of the garment all feel very regal and ethereal. you look very powerful. I agree with Gretel though that your face feels a little plain and washed out next to the rest of your look, I think bringing up the orange from the center of your look and incorporating it as a blush around the cheeks and forehead would accentuate the glow from the center of your look. Anyways, fantastic job this week, the guardians of the galaxy are SHOOK, my wig is in orbit.
EPI: I love purple and yellow together so I was really happy to see this! This look is very cohesive and I like the sun rays going all around Emily. This is a very fun way to interpret the theme , and the sun. Your rendering of lighting is great and grounds this in reality in a way that makes it easy to just enjoy this illustration without wondering about how it could be made irl. To cherry pick I’ll say I think maybe the planets could’ve been placed in a more symmetrical way, or have been more similar colors, because some of them really stood out to me (the blue one)? But I’m honestly not sure if it would’ve looked better, as it looks fine like this.
Mai: I am soo into this. I love the colors together, making you look really regal yet terrifying at the same time. Something I think that’s really smart here is that you have all of the planet symbols on the yellow draping all around her body, which helps reinforce the idea that Emily is the sun, and all these planets are, in a sense, rotating around her. The texture you got going on on the actual bodysuit is really interesting to look at; all of the folds kinda gives it a knock to Lovecraft deities.

Iniquity

Eva: I really like this! Your use of asymmetry works so well here, it definitely reminds me of being sick in bed and the blankets getting all messed up. I loved your take on this theme, it is definitely unexpected! I also love your use of detail-- the sweat drops and the green snot makeup are such genius choices and you don’t notice them right away, which makes it all the more satisfying when you do. I guess I would have liked to see you go more over the top-- maybe find out a way to use crumpled up Kleenex in the look?-- because this kind of gets overshadowed by the other contestants’ looks. But on its own I think it is a unique, successful interpretation of the theme, with a bit of humor to boot. Good work!
Gretel: sweat. Fever. Temperature. Heat. Illness. Swamp ass. All these things and a comforter are included. I like this concept. I think that’s a swell take on HOT. There are a few standout details like the makeup and the pose and the sweat beads that make this very fun. The garment I think just needed some e l e v a t i o n , something to make it more than a pair of wide legs plaid pants and half of an oversized coat. Maybe you could have played with the silhouette jutting out from one side , almost suffocating them , with only some limb exposed for relief from the fever. I think this sits too safely between ready to wear chic and camp and it needed to pushed in a direction - either high glamouavant-garde or camp it up even more. Let’s see you turn it up and turn it out even more next week
Maka: This concept was a really clever take on this theme, I love the details in your makeup; the severely blushed face, the green snot, and your droopy red eyes with the blue brush really sell the sense of discomfort that comes with having a fever, and the sweat drop jewels are a really clever also. The rest of the look for me unfortunately doesn’t have the same cleverness and whimsy though. I like this quilted fabric you have and would’ve liked to have seen it used in a different way, maybe as a big puffy robe with a big collar, really push the feel of being smothered with blankets and pillows. Overall you have the ideas, they just need a little more jush, please bring a note from your doctor when you return to the werkroom.
EPI: I like this idea, and the makeup is really cute. I kind of wish the proportions would’ve been even more exaggerated by the outfit, so that the exposed arm and head would’ve been even more ‘’swallowed’’ by the blankets and the fever. Overall, I like this design, though, and the colors are all really good with each other.
Mai: I enjoy how clean this look is. Doing fever is a really cool concept. I like the idea of having jewels as sweats. The pop of white and the way you rendered the quilting is really pleasing to the eyes. I think you can push it way more and extragerate the heating up aspect of a fever even more though. Maybe even more volumes, having the blanket drags on the floor. It is still a really, really good look, don't get me wrong, but don’t be afraid to really be out there and go wild. You got the concept down already, now hit the gas like there’s no cop watching don’t actually do that irl, i’m gay and i can’t drive

Lila Chameleon

Eva: This is STUNNING. I loved your idea to depict mirages with a flowing amorphous cloak. I spent a great deal of time poring over this look to see what I could find in it. Really my only thing I disliked were the shoes— they were pretty, but I don’t think they fit in very well with the rest of the look. Maybe something more warped and nebulous would have been better? Anyway, that is such a small gripe. I love how well you did the golden fringe on the cape, it really looks like it’s flowing. I also loved the orange and yellow accents in the blue makeup. Absolutely GORGEOUS rendering too. Phenomenal work.
Gretel: not me staring deeply into this Garment/ design trying to see things I absolutely love this. It has just enough of a twist, while still maintaining that freshness I look for every week. The Hood draped over the eyes the shoes peeking out ,the trim- the patterning of the dress , the colors. All chic choices. I like the combination of the blue skin with the red details and the gold. My only note here is that I would’ve love to also see a reveal to show what the face looked like because I bet the mug would’ve also been beautiful. Great work this week
Maka: Is what I’m seeing real or is it just a Chameleon? I am entranced by this look, the blue and orange bodypaint and the silver reflective fabric both really sell the mirage, and the gold trim helps define your silhouette. The studs on the front of the shoes were a bit of an odd choice, I don’t think they really add anything to the look, and I think the swirls around the hips started to look a little wrinkly, but otherwise you look very illusive and mysterious and I’m sure you’re going to lure many an unfortunate desert traveler to an untimely demise. Well done!
EPI: This is such a great take on this theme! The body paint is so interesting and beautifully drawn, and the outfit looks ethereal and expensive. I don’t know If i am confused, but the shoes almost look studded in the front , which makes me a bit perplexed, as i feel like that doesn't really fit the vibe of the rest of the outfit. Other than that, I like all the choices you made .
Mai : God I love this. The way you mixed different patterns together on the dress without making them look all muddled. Combining that with all of the gold and the veil make the look very successful. She seems very mystical and like she’s ready to draw anyone who’s unfortunate enough to catch a glimpse at her. I especially like the orange detailing of the body paint. It flows well with the neckline, but it also draws the eyes’ attention back to Lila so she doesn’t look lost in the garment.
The judges have made their decisions.
Lucy Furr, nobody could hold a candle to you this week. Great work, you have placed High.
